All I know is: Whoever, or whatever was the cause for our defensive turnaround mid-season better be there next year.

When I was working, they wanted me to take a $500k pay cut. I was like that would put me at ($450,000) per year. I refused and was summarily escorted to the door. Now I’m on GC all the time pro bono.

You know I was joking. But, I retired because I could financially and was tired of the work related BS.
I know many folks who either own or near the top of companies; they make a fortune and are past retirement age yet continue to work. I suspect they like the $$, the prestige being the king, and would rather work than not.
I wanted to be with my wife and watch our grandchildren grow up. That Billy Ray Cyrus song, Busy Man, says it quite well!

My step dad is wired like that. 75, still has a 9-5. He doesn’t actually work 9-5 as his portfolio and assistant eat most of those hours for him. While he doesn’t physically go in every day, he’s still up at 5 or 6 am everyday doing the grind. On top of that he runs a multi million dollar real estate venture as a side gig, runs a 160 acre farm with two workers that can’t spell their own name, and flies and maintains several planes daily. He never stops moving. He says when you stop moving, you die.

Wow! I’m not judging anyone who chooses to do that. There is no carved in stone method of this. I do know people (like my dad) that retire and have nothing much to do and probably aren’t happy. They tend to be the type that work was everything to them. Work was never the most important thing for me and was stressful. Plus. I’m fortunate to have a wide array of interests - not bored at all!

Plus, some of those interests can give a similar feel as a good job. I like coaching girls lacrosse and ran the league for a few years. When I retire, I look forward to having ambitious plans for league growth when I retire. I love hanging out with all the parents, having an impact on kids.

Kudos to you for seeing what's possible.

Id like the retirement part. Stacking useless money makes no sense to me. If you have enough to do what you want to do all day every day, what else is there. I cant wrap my head around people working that gain nothing from it. Is their life so bland that it floats their boat to work?

I’m with you. But, if you head up a company, you may receive a ton of praise, respect, attention, certain perks, etc. and some people can’t give that up. You and I could, but a lot can’t bring themselves to quit.

Some need a reason to leave the house every day. Every community needs volunteers though.

He's right and godspeed to him. Father time is undefeated, but you can hold him off for a long, long time if you keep yourself mentally, physically stimulated and take care of yourself.

Guys like his stepdad are still playing ice hockey in their mid-80's. There is a lot to be said about being able to get around without feeling like your body is torturing you. You can't hold it off forever, but you can make those years a lot easier physically (in many cases).

Charlie Strong’s defense was “bend don’t break”, IIRC. Much like what has been working for us the last half of the season. Wouldn’t mind seeing Charlie back in some capacity in any case. Strong leader. No pun intended

Some people love their work and it’s not really work to them. That’s usually the case for a lot of highly successful people.
