Also, that he played more snaps against FSU doesn't mean he is the starter. FSU had a poor pass blocking OL, so his lack of pressure wasn't a concern. Against Ole Miss it was, so his snap count was low. That isn't a bad. He should have some perspective about how LSU will play him. They have good defensive coaches who will know when to play him too, which could be frustrating for him there too.

think about it. He came to UF as a 3 star, late in the process of his recruiting class. He most likely got very little NIL. Played special teams his freshman year and got hurt his sophomore year. Blew up his junior year and watched younger players get more NIL who were not getting as much playing time as him. He wanted to be paid his senior year and UF said no. UF was banking on the younger players to fill in and may get burned with a few of them leaving as well.

This makes more sense to me than any other scenario. So do we dramatically increase NIL to a guy with one year left, or invest that money in younger guys? He must have been demanding a big bump

Well you are paying seniors like Dike and Badger to transfer in for one year so why wouldn't you pay a guy who has gotten better every year and bled for you already? And you also had on the cheap for three years.

Why over pay (invest) in a younger guy that might not pan out or leave (Searcy and Collins) or over pay and they still want more when they are seniors.

I think it would have been good for team chemistry and to the younger 3 star players to show that if you put in the work you will get rewarded. Now all they see is a guy who was the heart of the defense basically told to pound sand.

And yet the fans will be saying the player is the greedy one and they should be playing below their worth.

Or Banks, Barber, Slaughter and George probably got paid and Pyburn was seen as expendable.

Gave you a like so I'm not disagreeing with your take. Just thinking maybe you can look at it from another point of view: could it be as a program your policy might be you don't want players to essentially blackmail you by threatening to go into the portal if they don't meet their (rather excessive, if 45K/mo is true) demands.

I would counter that there are 5+ guys on the team already being paid that. Possibly one not as productive as PYBURN.

    Lagway for sure.
    Possibly Wilson, Barber and Banks

But I do understand your point

Yeah I agree - and at the same time, the 1-year portal guys typically come in at a position of need, while Edge appears to be well-manned - and supply vs. demand factors in right?

That said, I hate losing that guy. It came as a real blow from one I least expected. Either Jack got unreasonable in his demands, or we went cheap at the wrong time - or a little of both?

It has to be a nightmare trying to build a team under these conditions of free-for-all portal with zero restrictions, and of course unchecked NIL. How in hell can you build anything sustainable if you’re not Bama, Georgia, or tOSU??

The numbers are not public. None of us know what he was being paid before or what he asked for or what the guys behind or in front of him on the team are being paid. What you see here is mostly fantasy.

Unless someone can post some real numbers all we are doing is making assumptions. I'm going to assume a popular and seemingly genuine players coach like Napier wasn't being unreasonable though. I don't know Pyburn or his family so I can't speak to any unreasonable demands without some major assumptions based on little to no evidence. Whatever it is it's ugly.

I do not believe it’s “educated”. It’s just what you want to believe. None of us have any real idea what 99% of these guys are getting, or what they’re demanding. FLORIDA Victorious gives deals to athletes in all sports, not just football.
