FBI had 26 informants at Jan. 6 Capitol riots — and most were involved, bombshell DOJ report confirms

FBI informants engaged in illegal activity

But the DOJ’s Office of the Inspector General found that of the FBI’s confidential sources on the ground, four entered the Capitol in the midst of the riot and 13 went into a restricted area. Only nine were not found to have engaged in illegal activity, according to a long-awaited report released Thursday.

Only three of its 26 informants present had been instructed to observe potential domestic terrorist suspects on the day of the riot, the DOJ watchdog found. The rest of the 23 appear to have gone to the Capitol of their own accord.

“For those keeping score at home, this was labeled a dangerous conspiracy theory months ago,” Vice President-elect JD Vance posted on X in response to the report.

Months later, the New York Times reported that one of the Capitol rioters was caught texting his FBI handler real-time information as the ransacking unfolded.

I bet a lot more will come out on this, and they wonder why we don't trust the FBI and the left, corruption at its best

Critically, that report also shot down unsubstantiated speculation that the bureau had agents stoking some of the mayhem that day,

“We found no evidence in the materials we reviewed or the testimony we received showing or suggesting that the FBI had undercover employees in the various protest crowds, or at the Capitol, on January 6,” the report said.

And here we have the latest attempt from Trump supporters to lie about what happened on January 6th.

Sorry, OP, but just because Republicans are willing to listen to each other tell lies about what happened doesn't mean anybody else will be. We all saw a riot incited, as part of a criminal conspiracy to overturn an election.

We saw our Capitol Building and nation attacked. We saw hundreds of police officers beaten. And we saw, four years later, that Trump supporters still don't care.

So why don't you just admit that Trump voters love Trump more than they love America. Stop trying to LIE about what happened. 20241128_232949.jpg 20231013_233107.jpg

    LOLOLOL.

    From OPs link :

The FBI did not give its informants permission to flout the law by entering restricted areas, the watchdog report stressed.

Our review concluded that none of these three FBI [informants] were authorized to enter the Capitol or a restricted area, or to otherwise break the law on January 6, nor was any [informant] directed by the FBI to encourage others to commit illegal acts on January 6,” the report said, referring to the three informants instructed to go there by FBI field offices.

So three informants were there, instructed to observe and....inform. Others chose to voluntarily be there on their own. In other words, the FBI was doing its job.

But OP wants to denigrate them because he voted for a traitorous criminal.

Oh, and the Vice President chimed in some lies about this on Twitter.

So weird; it's like Trump and his supporters just attack America and LIE ABOUT IT. And people tolerate that. ;)

Planning something crazy? Look to your left, look to your right, one of those guys is an FBI informant. Its probably the one that's like "hey want to buy some guns and explosives? Crime sure does rock, am I right?"

There is an important distinction between FBI employees and FBI informants.

An FBI informant is basically a criminal that the FBI made some charges go away, or otherwise flipped to try and gather information on other elements of their criminal organization.

Sounds like only 3 were actually related to 1/6 plotting, I bet a lot of the rest were informants on drug/meth trafficking in right wing gangs/militias. So they were there at the Trump rally because those are the circles they rode in or they just wanted to be there.

There were approximately 1,200 who entered the Capitol on Jan 6. That puts FBI informants at a grand total of about 2%! Total infiltration!!!! It's a conspiracy!!! LOL

Informant are just criminals trying to work deals … it’s not surprising to all that those type of people would also be Trump lovers.

Edit… I see Bling beat me to this point.

Hold on - Donald Trump gave information to the FBI. Does that make him an informant also? We know that he's a criminal......

I'm wondering if he is being considered one of the three. Or is he not considered to have been at the actual riot, since after lying that he would be marching with them, he bailed out to watch his violent rubes attack the Capitol (and hundreds of police) on TV?

So were any of these informants the ones firing up the crowd or leading the charge to enter the capital? Did the report find that some or all of them were all working together in some fashion at the direction of the FBI? If so, how were they communicating with each other prior to and during the time when the crowd when into the capital?

It doesn’t say that at all, and if you read it actually answers one of your questions. 3 of the 26 were talking to the FBI on 1/6, so no all 26 were not all working together at the direction of the FBI or anyone else. The 3 were only there to “observe”, not to get involved or incite. If they committed a crime, that’s on them (and I suppose the FBI if these people can even be useful as informants anymore).

The other 23 were there without the FBI knowledge or consent. For all we know they were previous informants on meth trafficking investigations.
