Nissan: now possessing the credit of the majority of their owners.

    from the article

Insiders say the company has little more than a year to turn things around — will a merger with Honda save the day?

The car industry as a whole may be ailing — but Nissan's prognosis is particularly dire, the kind you measure in months, not years.

Sluggish sales — mainly in North America — have been disastrous for the Japanese automaker. In response, dealers are selling cars at a loss and production has been slashed by 20%. More recently, the company cut 9,000 jobs and sold a third of its stake in Mitsubishi.

The Japanese automaker also plans to cut production at its plants in Canton, Mississippi, and Smyrna, Tennessee — which together employ some 13,000 workers — by 100,000 cars.

Infiniti, their luxury brand, is in even worse shape.

    I owned two Datsuns ….. a 1977 280z and a 1982 280zx 2+2. Both were very good cars; wish I still had the 280z.

I’ve no experience with the more current Nissan products. I do think the GT-R would be a fun car to own.

Edit - Ugh, I forgot we purchased a 2003 Pathfinder for our son when he was in high school; the doors on the ‘93 Gran Cherokee he was driving were falling off. That was an okay vehicle and took a lot of wear and tear.

They produce a bunch of uninspiring cars and trucks. Not surprising

I’ve been wanting to get my hands on a pre 300Z (preferably a 240 or 260) as a retirement project to restore.

Nissan makes great cars but they let too many dealers operate like Jimmy Bryan used to with Toyota.

The new Frontier is actually a really solid truck, but I drive a Sentra currently as our commuter vehicle and I’m just waiting for when the transmission issues with the CVT hit. If I get 100,000 miles out of it I’ll be happy since we work from home and we put hardly any miles on it.

I've owned a 2002 and 2003 Infiniti Qx4s, which were luxury Pathfinders. Both were built like tanks and achieved 300k+ miles with only minor repairs and maintenance. Loved those SUVs.

Too bad that since then, Nissan engineered for profits instead of reliability.

I dont think the frontier is a bad truck from my experience. Just not sure why someone would choose it in it's price range.

I had a 1979 280z, that thing was fun to drive but not all that practical. Years later I had an Xterra for the 4wd. Looks like Toyota et all are cleaning Nissan's clock.

As the owner of a brand new 2024 Tacoma TRD Sport, you can get a fully loaded Pro-4X for basically the same price as a base TRD Tacoma with not nearly as many features, and it’s also the only mid-size truck on the market that comes equipped with a V6, unless you count the Ridgeline as one (I don’t). It’s a very good truck for the money.

Planning to keep my 2015 Rogue until the tires fall off. It’s at 80K miles. If I can get parts to fix it I’ll be satisfied.
    Datsun, Nissan, ?

We now have a fleet of Toyotas.

    23 4 Runner SRP XSeries

    24 Frand Highlander limited

24 4 Runner TRD Off Road

The Tahoe made it 17 years for us and the Yukon XL made it 12 years. Yukon was rear ended and totaled. I tried to salvage it. But three weeks after getting the salvage title I could not buckle my driver side seat belt. Was not going to more into at that point…
