Perhaps to you. Many, many, many things come into clearer focus after the passage of time - in all endeavors of life. In fact, as much as I despise Trump, history may treat him more generously. History will evaluate what a president ultimately accomplished for the good of the country. (For example, what did Reagan actually do for the good of the country?) That isn't always clear in the here-and-now.

Tilly is not MAGA. I can only suppose he thinks Biden is so bad is to further his “both sides” narrative to offset Trumps awfulness.

But your "way to the right" would provide a better view? BTW, what is your opinion as to why scholars, i.e., learned men and women, may generally have a more informed opinion than non-scholars?

I think this says it all about Reagan and fiscal responsibility. It was under Reagan that the Republican Party was transformed from the party of fiscal responsibility to the party of borrow and spend.

That ranking of president's is the funniest thing I have seen in a long time. Obama above Ike. Carter above Polk. Bush 1 over John Quincy Adams. Clinton above John Adams. Legitimately one of the funniest lists I have ever seen.

You're confusing popular with good and effective. They're not the same. Reagan was a shit President. There is no "truth" here. There are opinions. And I'm calling it how I see it. Much of the dysfunction in America today traces back to Ronald Reagan.

I assume you mean John Quincy Adams. My recollection was he wasn’t terribly remarkable.

No. I am talking about John Adams. John Quincy Adams's presidency wasn't significant (outside of it serving as a transition from the Jeffersonian era to Jacksonian Democracy), but he's a man worthy of admiration. John Adams was a terrible President. He was so bad that he played a part in killing the Federalist Party. Adams's legacy from his one term in office (because Jefferson blew him out when he ran for reelection) is the Alien and Sedition Acts. No bueno. Adams's greatest accomplishments occurred before he was President.

Your point is valid, but perhaps exaggerated a bit.

Reagan was two full terms, compared to Nixon ford and Carter less than two terms.

Reagan took over when inflation was high, so that makes nominal dollars inflated in quantity, exaggerating the percentage growth in national debt.

the initial tax cuts were 5% 10%, 10%. However Volckers inflation strategy worked better than anybody expected, causing the tax cuts to be bigger in real terms than expected.

Volckers interest rate hikes, which were necessary for inflation, killed the economy - which increases spending and decreases taxes.

The spending increases were in national defense re Cold War Debt service was also higher due to high interest rates. My recollection was discretionary spending was largely held in check.

For all the tax cuts, Reagan had tax increases about 50% as much as the cuts.

But the point still stands - Reagan pretty much put a fork in the Republican fiscal responsibility narrative. GWB tried to bring it back to a degree but was crucified for going back on “read my lips no new taxes” which locked in 3 decades of refusal to increase taxes under any circumstance.

Well this is certainly more convenient than going to one of those mall kiosks and trying to remember which ones you’ve previously gotten.

There was widespread f4aud in the 2024 election just like in 2020. Mark Mitchell reports a lot of the fraud at Rasmussen Reports on X. When questioned 20% of the people who sent in mail-in ballots in 2020 indicated they wittingl6 or unwittingly engaged in fraud, for example.

Well, it is true, and has been for many decades, that there is a large swath of Americans who distrust scholars and scientists. The ascension of Trump has revealed there are more ignorami than first feared.

Yes Our Universities is full of professors and other members of academia who fit this criteria
