Of course they disagree. Why would they want to admit they were wrong. Look at this board for proof. Almost no one that was for lockdowns, school closures and masking will admit they were wrong. So why would politicians be any different?

So much scientifically wrong in this post. mRNA vaccines are not gene therapy. Full stop. Gene therapies involve splicing your DNA, inserting a portion of DNA or RNA, and the reconstituting your DNA, thus changing your genome. It is impossible, read that again, IMPOSSIBLE for an mRNA vaccine to enter your genome. There is no splicing or reconstitution agent in the vaccine. And DNA is a very stable molecule that resists being spliced. If DNA wasn't so stable, we'd risk having our genome changed every time a bug bit us, or we ate anything.

Second, the mRNA vaccine acts on the exact same principle of all vaccines. The immune system consists of two sets of attack cells. T-Cells and antibodies. T-Cells are the first line of attack, and search out anything that can be harmful to the body and tries to rid the body of it. T-Cells are non-specific, and attack anything and everything. Sounds great, but the drawback is it takes a lot of energy for T-Cells to work. The younger you are, the more T-Cells the body creates, which is one of the reasons we need more sleep when we are younger.

Antibodies, on the other hand, are more specific attackers. The body's the immune system also has an antibody memory. Antibodies are also more effective than T-Cells at fighting an infection, because antibodies are specific fighters. The first time a body encounters an infection, it make take a while for the body to produce the correct antibody. But once it does, if the body ever encounters the same infectious agent again, the body reacts a lot quicker. So fast, in fact, that is many cases, after one infection, the body is "immune" to any further infections.

For traditional vaccines, scientists attempted to isolate a mutant of the virus that contained the proper mRNA to trigger the right antibodies, but without all the proteins that could make a person sick. This type of virus is called an attenuated virus. And to isolate an attenuated virus, the general practice was to infect thousands of chicken eggs with the original virus and wait and hope for an attenuated mutant to appear. This way, doctors could inject the attenuated virus into a person, trigger the antibody immune response, and viola, a person is vaccinated against the virus that causes sickness. Very effective, but also the potential for problems. You are injecting a person with a live virus that has the chance to mutate back into something more virulent and cause harm.

Enter the mRNA vaccine. Instead of injecting thousands upon thousands of eggs waiting for an attenuated mutant, we can now just isolate the mRNA that triggers the antibody immune response in the body. It's much faster, and much safer, and mRNA can't mutate back into anything. In fact, mRNA itself breaks down very quickly in normal conditions, which is why the mRNA vaccine must be kept at very cold conditions before use.

Last, MAGA figured out nothing except how to die at higher rates from COVID. The lack of scientific knowledge in your post proves this. Fortunately for most people under 50, T-cells are quite effective against COVID. It's only people with other, pre-existing conditions under 50 that had to worry. Still, vaccines and treatments are about lowering risk, and the risk of COVID, all ages, was > 0. The vaccine lowered said risks. To use an analogy, seat belts too lower risks. Doesn't take the risk down to 0, and chances are, the next time you're in a car, you won't need your seatbelt, as you are unlikely to get into an accident. But those who wear seatbelts reduce their risks of injury and death, which is why buckling up every trip is a good idea.

My science knowledge is greater than yours I suspect. You have no idea whether the mRNA tech increased or decreased risks vor various groups (5 month old kids to 6 year olds, as an example).

The American Society for Gene and Cell Therapy has called the mRNA "vaccines" "gene therapy."

Gene therapy requires splicing and reconstitution DNA. Thankfully, only certain RNA stands are capable of this. And neither the stand to cut or combine appear in the mRNA vaccine. Therfore, it's impossible for the vaccine to add anything to your genome, also meaning there is no way the vaccine fits any actual scientific definition of gene therapy.

 

Gene therapy doesn't n3cessarily require changing your DNA. Unless your team has managed to change the definition of gene therapy (like how the CDC changed the definition of vaccine).

wrt to stuff like this there will never be a winning course of action. No matter what, "they" would be heavily criticized. When you have imperfect & incomplete information & potentially catastrophic downside - concepts the masses can't comprehend - any & every course of action will be deemed a failure. That's awesome thanks for posting that. MRNA is such a great breakthrough with a lot of promising treatments on the way. Some of them coming out of the University of Florida for brain cancer. I'm thankful for the NIH's continued funding in MRNA research

The very definition of gene therapy, at least according to the MAYO Clinic, is fixing or replacing a faulty gene by introducing new DNA into a body. Imagine a Type I diabetic being able to produce his own insulin! Or a hemophiliac being able to have his blood clot normally! The latter gene therapy is in a trial phase, with some promising results.

The COVID vaccine does not fit the definition of gene therapy. From the same ASGCT you cite:

The mRNA vaccine acts like all vaccines. All vaccines train the immune system in the same way. The mRNA just takes the active ingredient from the virus, adds some inert ingredients to keep the mRNA from degrading, and works like any vaccine.

The vaccine is an advancement for gene therapy because it represents the first time mRNA was used in an approved use. All other mRNA uses have been trial only.

One question about mRNA is its durability. mRNA breaks down in seconds outside the body. It's why Malone gave up his mRNA research. He was one of the first to isolate mRNA, but believed there would never be practical use because of the mRNA halflife of milliseconds. Malone was proven wrong in less than 20 years.

Still, the vaccine is not a gene therapy. It's related because many gene therapies use mRNA, often from viruses, to change or fix a person's genome. The vaccine? No genomic change. Just a natural, antibody immune response.
