Like you just explained. It's fine to use these drugs, despite their side effects, to address minors' medical issues you think merit treatment. So the issue here isn't people under 18 taking these drugs. Nor is it physician approval or parental consent.

I can't speak for you, but I can venture a guess. You don't support gender-affirming care as a treatment. That's your prerogative. If you don't want to be involved in gender-affirming care, you have every right to not be. Where we get crosswise is when you (and others) try to enshrine your personal prejudices into law and take away the rights of others (including other doctors) to make their own decisions.

What rights? The right to make one's own healthcare decisions. The right to equal protection. The right to equal citizenship.

 

And you think a surgeon should do that procedure? It’s a described condition with a diagnosis. Body integrity identity disorder

 

Isn't it amazing the "ban the surgeries, but don't ban the medications crowd" have no clue what medications they're even talking about, let alone what these medications actually do to the body? As if exogenously shutting off a child's endocrine system wouldn't at least pose the risk of long-term complications down the road. And we haven't even gotten to the part yet where kids change their minds 4 times a day.
