This is false. If Texas lost Ewers and Manning, do you think they would be successful with their Qb3? Don you even know who it is? Trey Owens, a Texas kid with 11 total offers, 8 of them from Texas schools, power house offers too from
    Stephen F. Austin
    UConn
    Baylor
    Rice
    Houston
    SMU
    Texas tech
    Tulsa
    Univ. Texas San Antonio
    Wazzou

You think they could have plugged him in Vs a top ranked playoff team as Texas was or a winner of 2 of the last 3 nattys, UGA, whom beat Texas this season, and been successfully let alone have won? that's a tall task for ANY STARTING QB let alone a 3rd string transfer who didnt even participate in spring ball.

So your expectations have fallen that much. Gotcha. We will just overlook Napiers only QB recruit being Lagway - which is why we were starting a QB from Yale when Lagway got hurt.

Wrong. Our third string right now is probably a TR FR 4 star we just signed. The problem is Napier has recruited one QB before this year so what happens when he gets hurt? W e start a QB from YALE

No... The issue was Brown and Miller both tranfered after Lagway signed, which happens when the #1 QB signs with a school. Tell us the top QBs that would sit behind Lagway for three years?

Don’t have a link, but Ole Miss got Walker Howard to transfer and be a third string behind Dart and Simmons.

The Texas game was never going to be a win with the people we had out. But I think we should at least debate the positions openly and put our opinions out there, so people know where we stand. Lol... not that our opinions matter, but it's something to discuss with others here.

As I have said before, that the NIL and the portal made it far more difficult to stack 3 or 4 scholarship QBs on one team. But if we get one good one per year, then it seems doable. I think if we miss on one year, it may affect our team's overall readiness more than we think it does.

I was wondering if anyone here had a good idea about how they would go about preventing having to go to a walk-on QB. And you explained what we know. One scholarship guy got beat out by a walk-on. Maybe that walk-on should be a scholarship QB? I don't know... or maybe we just missed out on a better scholarship QB in the recent past.

Teams like Texas seem to do okay with QBs.... and I think we are now doing much better with the QB we took from FSU, Tramell Jones, out of Jacksonville that we just singed. The future looks a lot brighter after this signing class.

Stealing players from FSU never gets old... I love it.

Now I know that Napier is rectifying this position shortage with quality scholarship QBs because he has next year's QB already committed. 2026 in Will Griffin.

I feel much better about the future of the entire football program lately... too bad it took this long to get that ship sailing straight.

Simmons? Is he even close to Lagway as a prospect?

I'm thinking Howard believes he can beat Simmons out in 2025.

The issue at QB are the misses in recruiting and transfers…

2021 - Carlos Del Rio / Jalen Kitna
    2022 - Max Brown / Jack Miller
    2023 - Jaden Rashada / Graham Mertz
2024 - DJ Lagway / Austin Simmons / Clay Millen

Some really bad luck with injury and off field issues. We also had the kid from Georgia that passed away right before signing that forced us to go to Max

and not factor in at all that the university of Florida started a QB that can’t throw? That’s wild imo

So FSU is the standard for UF? lol we are cooked.
Bama just lost the best coach ever and they have a four deep - they could’ve all left and I’m sure they got offers.

OSUs room is stacked right now as well, even after taking a senior QB to be their starter. Did they have a mass exodus? Only one left and they still have a four deep.
But they have a great QB room don’t they? How does your comment apply to what I said?
Yes? I have a problem with any players on UF that are not up to the standard. Unless ofc our standard has lowered that much. This is a business now. Spare me the feel good stories. I’m sure he’s a good kid. Doesn’t need to be playing here.
Hang the banner now “completed several downfield passes vs texas” lol. You’re right - when we were down 40 he completed a couple.
lol yall acknowledge the game has changed so much and then bring spurrier up? Really?
your statement is the funniest of them all. I cited multiple programs that we should be operating on the same level as and you bring up one I didn’t even cite. And yes, until this year they had another 4 star that transferred to Duke for pt. Why didn’t you bring up OSU or bama? Because they’re loaded - even tho bama just lost the best coach ever and OSU is perpetually falling short.

I responded to a lot of comments individually but now as a collective response let me say - it is not acceptable for the Florida gators to be dependent on a Walk on QB. EVER. Idc how good of a kid the student is.

The reason we are dependent on a walk on QB is directly due to the fact that in Napiers four classes, he has signed 2 qbs, one being yesterday so he obviously couldn’t play in the Texas game. Idc how you spin it- it’s unacceptable. When will this board - who obviously loves recruiting - wake up to that fact? It’s unacceptable. Lagway is amazing. But he can NEVER afford to get hurt. Why is this a controversial statement?

    Exactly.

and!! they stole Simmons from us, this is my point - while Lagway is better, ole Miss has a DEEPER QB room than us, which is just unacceptable. Recruiting misses at the QB position are stacking up and that’s why we are playing a walk on from Yale.

Stetson Bennett was a walk on.
Anyone saying good teams don't promote walk ons know very little about college football

Stop already with this repeated nonsense! The reason we played the 3rd string QB is that QB1 was season ended injured, and QB 2 had and still has a hamstring injury. Not many teams have a quality 3rd string QB standing around taking notes on a clipboard who is ready to step on the field and play at a high level.

Tell us who is the Texas 3rd string QB waiting in the wings.

Jalen Milroe on many occasions this season hasn't been able to throw the ball into the ocean from the shoreline. Who is bama's 3rd string QB. For that matter, who is bama's 2nd string QB because they should have used him at times this year when Milroe was cold in the passing game.

Bottom line, when you lose QBs 1 & 2 you are in trouble regardless of who you have behind them. Not everybody can pull a 3rd out of the hat the way tOSU did when they won a national championship with a 3rd string QB.

This has been stated multiple times but I’ll say it again:
Bama has a 4 deep of 4 stars.
    OSU has the same.
Hell, even Ole Miss has a 3 deep.

You will never convince me that it is justified for a walk on quarterback to be playing at THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA.

you can clearly point to multiple misses in recruiting to show why we were in the position we were in.

The only repeated nonsense is that if our players get hurt it’s ok not to have quality depth behind them. Miss me w that nonsense

I think it might be how "quality" walk-on QB is defined. Is he quality because he can efficiently run the scout team during weekly practices or is he quality because he can step onto the playing field and not be a giant liability if the starter goes down, because there is a Grand Canyon sized gap between the two. Unfortunately, I think Warner is closer to the former than the latter. He definitely doesn't have D1 arm talent.

Nobody said that. Stetson bennet had a scholarship by the time he was actually playing because he showed it. Our walk on played because we were desperate. Completely different situations.

2025 is going to be a repeat of 2024 at the QB position. If it is to be any different, CBN will have to recruit a transfer QB. Who is out there? I saw the other day someone is losing their starting QB to the transfer portal, not that I think CBN can convince him to come and compete for backup to Lagway. Would any career backup be any better than we have now?

It’s weird that this excuse is used often yet the blue bloods never have this issue and even ole Miss got a transfer from LSU last year that knew he was gonna be 2nd/3rd string. They get people who can step right in, we get Yale QBs. Is this the future you want for our gators? Because if so there isn’t even a point in responding because that will never be the future I want.
