Another day in the US. Would seem unlikely to be a random shooting though.

Exclusive | UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson fatally shot outside of Hilton hotel in NYC: sources

The CEO of UnitedHealth was fatally shot in the chest Wednesday morning outside the Hilton hotel in Midtown in what police say was a targeted attack.

Brian Thompson, 50, was at the hotel at around 6:46 a.m. when a masked man fired at the CEO and fled eastbound off of 6th Avenue, police sources told The Post.

Thomas was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Wonder if this is a disgruntled employee or something else. The fact the shooter was able to get him him on the way out of his hotel, early in the morning shows a decent level of target reconnaissance and preparation.

I agree and I first want to say all life is sacred and it is wrong to kill anyone. But insurance company execs should be the first ones against the wall.

Big problem for cops, so many people have a motive to want a health insurance CEO dead

The comment sections on every story are amazing. Not a single ounce of sympathy. Just pillorying UFC over and over and over. The worm is really starting to turn in this country.

You know it is. Probably had wife/daughter die of cancer due to UFC not paying/approving services, etc. Because, you know, ROI > Human Life.

Prepared for negative ratings but UHC is widely considered the worst of the bunch when it comes to denying medical necessities for patients who need them. I don't celebrate anyone's death but I understand the apathy.

I'd say it's beyond apathy. Let's just say that "The Terror 2.0" isn't that big a jump from where we're at now. I remember seeing a poll a year or so back that rated corporations as the most unpopular entity in America. And that was a poll of Republicans!

IDK. I haven't really gotten into those details. Too busy marveling at the comment sections. Again, not one once of sympathy. I doubt it would have been this bad even 10 years ago.

Yeah I should have added "my apathy." My feelings end there because I try to use restraint and not take my animosity to those depths although I have to say....I understand why many cross that line and wish harm on the decision makers that screw over patients for profit.

Just sayin' I've never seen a situation like this where literally nobody cares, no "prayers for the family" etc. Just cold, hard cynicism.

I’ve got UHC Medicare Supplement and they’ve paid every claim for the last 2 years of my cancer journey. If Medicare paid 80% UHC paid their 20% no questions asked.

I’ve read a lot of bad press about their Advantage plan not paying.

Young man has MS and needs a power chair. PT (wheelchair clinic) writes a letter of medical necessity which gets denied. Further letters and peer review and the chair finally gets approved several months later. By the time it arrives the young man passes. Repeat similar stories countless times over and over again.

I don't think it's healthy to celebrate death of any kind and doing so doesn't rectify the remaining problem but I shed no tears for the people that are responsible for those types of business practices which themselves are devoid of sympathy, humanity etc. Patients are literally a number on a ledger that hurt their bottom line. Again, not that I'm arguing with you because we are saying different degrees of a similar thing but l....I understand it completely especially from those affected by such heartless business practices.
