I thought that giving people jobs simply based on race and/or gender instead of merit was a bad thing
This is a good development. I would think they have the resources and authority to do a more complete look-see. There was a neighborhood kid that was a Marine assigned to the WH. I got a visit from the FBI asking about him. We had been friends in middle school. Pretty thorough.
It conducts interviews with people the nominee has worked for, worked with, and who have worked for them, as well as friends and family. They also interview the people that those people recommend they speak with regarding an alleged incidents. So in the case of Hegseth alleged actions at a strip club, they FBI would go speak to all the people that were in that group.
Yep, they look at things like criminal complaints, bank accounts and interview people that may know you.
I don't think this nomination makes it through, I sense he will withdraw before it gets to the Senate.
Agree. According to the different television network news sources at least six Republican senators have indicated that they have misgivings regarding Hegseth.
Holy shit! A mother... taking a public stance, like an actual MOM, rather than contorting her *morality* to conform to her desired outcome. I liked Hegseth-was on board with an outsider's view of our military--but having his mom come out and take up for truth, against her own son's interest, is nothing short of radically refreshing. Women--mothers in particular--are the anchors of culture. For too long (time immemorial it seems)--mothers selling out to run cover for their son's shitty behavior, under the guise of true maternal love--has been celebrated and rewarded, yielding the immoral culture we bask in today. Hegseth as collateral damage for a mother, being a real flippn mom, publicly, to her own and her son's detriment, is worthy casualty to take, in exchange for a singularly heroic thing that should be lauded far and wide--and hopefully spark a maternal revolution. ...imagine DC if it were populated by folks with moms who were/are grounded in truth and morality, rather than lust for power... That's about what it would take, to make DC, look and smell, a little more like the rest of the regular nation. I am deeply moved by momma Hegseth's courage here. PS--yes, I know--Trump's mom.... Clinton's mom... Gaetz' mom...momma Kennedy... plenty others could be shaded here--not trying to shade anyone, or to make this partisan--just celebrating this radical departure from the norm. God bless all the real mothers, who keep things real, starting with their own children. Fwiw.
I think that nominee will receive much wider support, but would DeSantis leave his governorship for it?
A risky move for DeSantis. He won’t be in the public spotlight every day like he is as governor, and it raises additional issues for him when he tries to run for senator on 2 years. For him and his ambitions, what’s the political gain in making the move?
If the ultimate goal is President, then I would say this puts him on the national stage, making executive-level decisions. That’s the only thing that occurs to me. Being a Senator would be a much easier life with a longer term of job security to be sure.
I don’t think Trump would float DeSantis‘s name unless DeSantis was willing to do it. DeSantis is too big a name politically to just throw it out there without having spoken to DeSantis himself first. IOW, it has already been discussed behind closed doors. DeSantis is the perfect, bulletproof selection for this position.
The political landscape is changing in regards to which position best features someone’s abilities to run the country. DeSantis is already such a well-known quantity, the distinction between being the secretary of defense or a United States senator is virtually negligible as it relates to his prospects of becoming president someday.
DeSantis, upon exiting the 2024 GOP primary, threw shade at Nikki Haley for her backing of the forever wars platform. I love this pick by Donald Trump. DeSantis is perfect.
LOL on the title change instead of a new thread. The STINK will stay with this thread. Need to change forum name from Too Hot to Too Funny.
