Far less plays and time on the field. The O either gets a score or punts. No messin' around.

I'll keep stating this. CBN has got to hire a great OC if he wants to be back in the full good graces of Gator Nation. The play calling is not good and that's being nice.

    Inside your head.
I've watched Saban's offence quite a bit. In critical situations the Bama play calling was fairly predictable. The difference was the studs he had to make the play successful. Bama always had the studs. IMO the Jimmies and Joes outweigh the Xs and Os. Of course we need both but if we can recruit the studs like SOS and Sabin did, the play calling won't be an issue.

My point is spots 4-8 in the SEC are basically tied. A percentage point or two is just subjective.

IF he lands this top 15 class (maybe top 10) and the growth continues next season with DJ, he will land a monster class of kids wanting to play with DJ in '26.

It seems we do a lot of motion and play fakes that result in slow developing plays. The long run by Montreal was a straight run play with none of that. With a hobbled QB, running the zone read fake accomplishes nothing but giving the defense more time to react.

When a blitz is coming or in an obvious passing down, the play action fake does nothing but delay the QB from getting his eyes down the field. Not a fan of faking for the sake of it when the defense isn’t honoring the fakes.

I know the "OC" issue may be the biggest offseason topic for UF outside of Recruiting and the Portal, but I still don't see Billy giving up play calling duties. I base that on the last three years, Billy likes to control the offense.

Would I like to see a hot shot OC that could help DJL bloom? Sure, who wouldn't? I have a feeling CBN may make a move to bring an offensive "mind" in, but I'm not banking on a new OC.

We shall see, I'm just esctatic about the 3-0 finish and the recruting class right now. Been a long tough season and I'm over the moon that UF continues to trend up. Alot of folks are trending down. Good to have a shoe on the right foot for once! Close strong ESD and win the Bowl!

Exactly. The difference between most of these classes is negligible and could be a result of different coaching evals.
Most years you can take the 6th class vs the 12th class and debate which is better.
Fill needs, make strong player evaluations, spend NIL wisely....all more important than "class ranking"

Given how many punts we had, was really surprised to see we still had 235 on the ground.

Just seemed like a good opportunity to turn the switch on and lay down the hammer in this game.
FSU is as bad a football team as there is, and we in the first half went
3 plays for 9 yards, punt
4 plays for 31 yards, punt
2 plays for 14 yards, TD (from their fumble on a punt)
6 plays for 13 yards, punt
9 plays for 50 yards, INT
9 plays for 80 yards, TD

Then you start the 2nd half with the ball and go
    3 for -8 yards, punt
    4 for 20 yards, punt

As shown by the int, route running is and has been an issue with players running into the same area. Very congested formations, not sure why we don't spread the field from a formation perspective more.

its just crazy - fsu had 8 fumbles and 5 lost, and the most amazing stat Zero penalties.

I mean this with all due respect, but I think you're operating from a position of hope. Like I've said, maybe I'm spoiled. I remember Spurrier, Zook and Meyer's classes. Mullen even had a couple of Top 10 classes. The SEC has only gotten stronger in the past decade. Could a team win the SEC with merely a Top 10 class? Maybe, but it will be rare. All you have to do is look at who's playing in the SECCG this year. Texas and Georgia have been slaying recruiting for years. In the past 3 years, Texas: #5 class, #3 class and #6 class per 247sports. Georgia: #3, #2, #1.

The distinction that we are tied with a few other SEC teams for the mid-tier conference rankings isn't doing much for me, because I know it's not going to translate into success. If we had a coaching staff like we had in 1996, I would believe we could win things even with a mid-tier SEC recruiting class, but we don't have that sort of coaching staff.

I'm still not assuming anything with DJ Lagway. I've followed this game for too long to assume much at all. I've heard kids promise the world and then some and then BOOM... one day they enter the portal or it's announced they're seeking a transfer. The reason I say this about Lagway is his stat lines are leaving people wanting more. It will become an issue as he inches closer to a draft prospect. He will want to be in an offense where his stat line will at least rival the best of the best in the country.

He's not going to say anything different than what he has been saying right now, even if he's considering a transfer. I've seen this scenario play out too many times over the years to think otherwise. To be clear, I am not predicting Lagway is going to enter the portal, but I would not be shocked at all. Just know that he's not going to say anything right now to blow this up. We'll only hear about it once the decision has been made final.

I'll no doubt get torched for saying that about Lagway, but if you don't think he has people in his ear about getting outperformed (in the stat line) Saturday night by FSU's true freshman, no name QB, who could barely hang on to the ball, you're dreaming. That's just the world we live in.

As you should get torched for it. Invoking the idea that DJ transfers out? My neighbor in our Lord and Savior - cut it out.

We arent tied with mid tier. We are tied with many in the top half. Probably 4-8 are even. So that means we are more like the top 25% percentile....before the portal which Billy is good at and juniors and seniors will be begging to transfer in and play with DJ.

It was hope 3 werks ago ..but a 40 spot leap is reality...not hope

Hiring an OC is not going to change much IMO. Its not like Billy is just going to wipe the playbook and start a new system. We are going to be a run heavy team who takes deep shots. That is our identity. OC can only help with maybe some route concepts and general play calling. But it will be a similar offense no matter what

I would however like to see a few more wrinkle plays where we scheme someone open for those 12-15 yard over the middle. Too often our offense is dependent on winning matchups with WRs. I do not have a ton to complain about in terms of play calling the 2nd half of the season

Fair enough and I agree that we don't need a completely new system. DJ's comfortable, so me too. If nothing else, Billy can concentrate on the program more than he is able to and that's good for all of us. A new OC with some wrinkles and secret dagger plays would be a win if Napier were able to manage bitter picture priorities.

If there are no staff changes but DJ keeps ascending then the OC issue will be at the very least suppressed the next 2 years. DJ taking the off the top of the defense is something to marvel at, but he has much room for growth in the intermediate game - something the last few successful QBs (Mertz, Trask) were exceptional at.

My hope is that the short and intermediate passing attack Mertz performed well with can be refined into DJ's game. Not to make DJ something he is not, he is going to sling it and by all means, sling, but I believe sharpening those concepts will make him a complete QB at all levels of his passing game.

The last time we had this conversation about our head coach giving up play calling we ended up with Lynn Amedee, who looked great on paper. For those of you who didn’t live through it, you should go look it up.
