without this, djt would have the fbi and the doj scrutinizing him for anything and everything and charging him regardless of likelihood of conviction.

heck, they are talking about prosecuting doj and fbi employees and prosecutors that were involved with djt prosecutions. does that bother you that our justice department needs to worry about what is legal based on who is in office. djt is doing exactly what he was accusing the dems of by weaponizing the justice system to target enemies and reward friends. are you okay with that? regardless of what they claim, the doj hasn't been weaponized to date, but it appears that he has every intent to push it to the limits with a selection like patel

So does this make Hunter eligible or ineligible for Trump's cabinet?

Just out of curiosity, how many of those Black men were imprisoned solely for violating the gun law? The chances are that virtually all of them used the firearms that they illegally acquired in the commission of other crimes. Lying on a federal gun purchase form is almost never prosecuted as a stand-alone cirme.

Brother, our definition of "nuance" is very different. In the world I live in, using your power to allow your son to commit crimes without facing consequences is not acceptable. There are a lot of things I can and will compromise on. This isn't one.

If you're going to have a criminal legal system and prisons (and we should), there should not be any Americans who are above the law. Otherwise, how do you justify this system and its punishments to the normal people who don't get out of jail free cards?

You watch when there’s a thread devoted to Trump’s plans with respect to the FBI - the Attilas will applaud those plans and be oblivious to their rank hypocrisy.

The issue is whether you’d pardon your son. You answered it. I vigorously disagree under the Hunter Biden fact scenario. Vag8tr1 (post 42) correctly placed things in context, which is how every fact scenario should be viewed. Things are NOT black or white.

My "integrity" has one limit. Protecting my wife and kids. Baring something that could truly harm others, I would do the same thing. I have no issue with Biden doing this.

Then you have to eliminate pardons altogether.
    They, by nature, allow this

I think everyone on the right knew this was coming despite the denials from the White House.

If this is a blanket pardon for any federal crimes committed in the last 10 years, that's obviously a bigger deal than just a pardon for the tax evasion and the gun charge. Burisma? Bribes? How often do pardons cast such a wide net like this one?

I think Ford pardoned Nixon for any and all crimes. He wanted to put Watergate in the rear view mirror for the country, probably the right thing but cost him the election.

Is your argument that it's okay for Joe Biden to pardon his son because his son's crimes aren't significant enough or aren't prosecuted often enough? I'm not getting the point here. What would make you say, "Yeah, Biden is wrong to pardon his son"? Are there specific crimes that are off limits and specific crimes that are acceptable?
Okay, don't hold public office then. You don't have the integrity for it if you'd use your position of power to shield your wife and kids from consequences for their actions.
    No, they don't.

More a case of protecting Hunter Biden from frivolous prosecutions by a Trump DOJ bent on retribution.
