Like I've said.. teams don't win games most of the time when they give up more yards than they gain themselves, so you are absolutely correct. We could re-play the Ole Miss and FSU games 10 times and we likely wouldn't see each team turn the ball over as much as they did against us again. Wins are wins, but we're not going to compete for national titles being bottom feeders in both total offense and total defense. When has that formula ever worked for a team?

I so agree to needing a top OC but I doubt it will happen. BN thinks he is great at it, wants to prove doubters wrong, and seems to want 2 OL coaches. Now that UF has turned things around (primarily due to the D and not his offense play calling) imo he sees no need to change. I think he is still miffed at his experience calling plays at Clemson that he wants to prove to Dabo he made a mistake. Just my opinion nothing more.

84th in total offense. 17 passing tds on the year ranks in bottom of country. We hovered around Navy and Western Michigan in total offense at 375pg. That’s not good. Not good enough to win titles. Not good enough when you have DJ freakin Lagway. Not good enough to attract WR talent.
According to Cbn they look at EVERYTHING in the offseason. They know that’s not good enough. You keep O’Hara and Billy overseeing things… same system … but let someone come in who can improve passing game

    Very plausible take. For reference:

What Happened Between Clemson Coaches Dabo Swinney and Billy Napier?

The hot topic coming out about Clemson this week was the rumored altercation between head coach Dabo Swinney and offensive coordinator Billy Napier at last Wednesday's practice.

There are reports of Swinney changing up to 25 of Napier's calls per game, and that during the final Clemson drive of the Maryland game, Dabo signaled a different call from Napier and didn't change the protection scheme, which resulted in a sack of quarterback Kyle Parker.

The reports go even so far as to claim that Napier is often unaware that Dabo is even changing the call. These are stemming from a handful of independent websites that I won't link because they are unsubstantiated rumors, but they did create enough of a buzz to have Swinney answer questions about it in this week's press conference.

  6. It is entirely possible to bring in a dedicated OC without surrendering the overall design and strategy of the offense. Napier’s offense at the strategic level is the same as half the NFL offenses. What this offense needs is a tactician who can adjust the offense within the parameters of the current playbook that has been practiced either to add wrinkles to confuse the opponent, adjust to players on the field (due to injuries), or to adjust to changes that the opponents made. At the very least it offloads the decision burden from Napier so he can control the overall game better (*cough * cough * timeouts at the right time).

It is possible that Napier loves his offense at the strategic and tactical level and will either hire a yes-man or promote from within, which would likely be a mistake. Napier’s offense is probably capable of winning 7-9 games at most. Adding a dedicated OC might unlock untapped potential leading to 10+ wins.

As fans we probably agree that the offense is too limiting. I doubt all 5,327 of Napier’s offensive analysts are telling him that and he is likely to believe them over us Swamp Gas forum members. At a minimum he needs a dedicated OC from his coaching tree. At best he needs a name brand OC who can bring a unique offense that reflects Napier’s goals on offense.

I thought there were no on the field coach limits anymore. So unless there are still rules that there are only 10 coaches who can interact with players over certain periods, why can’t we add a coach?

You probably said the same about a 3 game streak.

The 3 game streak is something the players control. The OC is Billy's decision. What has Billy said that is verifiable that leads you to believe he's going to acquiesce?

He already promoted a guy from within last year. I think we've seen that with a confident deep ball thrower this offense can work well and I wouldn't go as far as to say it puts a cap on how many games we could win. That said, it's evident there's room for improvement with respect to passing design. Whether that comes internally or externally it would be nice to see it improved next year.

Nothing. But how come losing was Billy's fault but winning is the players?

My problem with Billy's play calling is he is only wide open when we are behind. Start of the second half against the Semi's was horrible. Waste of deferring the kick. He is average at best as a play caller and that's a reach.

Feels like we’re moving the goal posts. What does winning the last 3 games have to do with Napier’s willingness to hire an OC? If anything, it’s gonna give Napier a false sense of validation and he’s going to be even more stubborn about not hiring an OC.

A run play and two pass plays. (One was a 10 yard completion. DJ was sacked on the other).

What was wrong with the play calls there?
Basing play calling just on the outcome isnt fair at all.

Montrell had a monster game, but took a 4 yard loss on the first play of the half.
    Billy called two pass plays.

I mean what should he have done?

    What would YOU have called?

If the entire team shows up to play at the bowl game, I’ll be happy about that. I’m still not sold on the recruiting, because we really need to be in the top 4 in the SEC to start competing to win this conference. If Billy’s method is going to be grind it out and keep it close, we’re going to need a talent advantage. His scheme isn’t revolutionary enough to win consistently with mid-tier talent (when compared to the rest of the SEC).

The dual threat QB can't run. States he had a bad game. Killed two drives with bad throws. Misses a wide open reciever for an easy touchdown. Receivers drop balls they usually catch. We win by 20 = POOR PLAY CALLING - OK
