Why is nobody talking about the great technique Gumbs displayed while planting the flag. It was pretty flawless imo
Geez. So much whining. It is like we brought out a post hole digger and some concrete to put the flag down. Seems ultra silly to me. What's next? Ban opposing team from bringing flags?
it happens so often when Florida State wins in Gainesville that I don’t wanna hear about the fake outrage from either our fans or theirs if the NCAA doesn’t like it pass, a rule imposed suspension in the like otherwise deal with it
Gumbs is 20 years old and just finished a very physical game. What about the 50 year old who screamed, grabbed the flag and threw it on the ground? I’m not a fan of the flag thing (or sod stealing) but norvelllllll is the biggest idiot here by far.
FSU doesn’t deserve to be defeated with class. They are historically a dirty team that bitches after every play and call. Every play some FSU player starts a skirmish with our guys. This has been going on for decades. They don’t tackle clean, they are trying to hurt opponents. They are dirty and devoid of even a modicum of class. They deserve every thing they get.
It was posted earlier that he posted that after the OSU UM game. After that, there wasn't much he could say after ours!
Exactly. Gumbs was going full speed in that game and was celebrating the hard fought win. Norvell is a poor sport and had to escalate the situation. Zero honor.
He posted that about the OSU/MI game. It is the logical response to what happened. Losers need to get off the field. It’s what I said after the our game and theirs. I’m sure he would not have said the same thing after our game though.
Perhaps. But it's FSU. As I said upthread, they bring out the worst in every one they play. And as many others have pointed out, they have done similar to others (sod cemetery, band playing over Petty, parading the Gator head...) ...and all that aside from institutionally covering up rape, theft, aggravated battery, academic dishonesty, encouraging players to injure opponents' qb's/rb's, etc etc... Classless scum. The only proper response to FSU, is scissor cut their sorry asses off of our schedule (and watch their recruiting nose dive). This series is pure garbage for UF. A yearly commercial for FSU. We win little by beating them, but when they win, it's misery. That game on our schedule should be rotating with UCF, USF, Miami or FIU/FAU--to alternate opportunities to market UF/ Gator football to all the major metro areas in Florida, not just a gratuitous annual pitch for FSU relevance. F@#$% FSU.
My take, that I am sure everyone is waiting on as it is usually the correct take. lol first, are the posters that are mad / disappointed in the flag plant also mad at urban Meyer for calling the timeouts vs Georgia in 2008? Was it immature? Should Urban have been the better man and not sought revenge for 2007? Did he show no class? second, are these same posters mad/disappointed that Spurrier had his team running flea flickers and bombs in the closing minute at Georgia, running up the score on poor backups (which included one Kirby Smart who apparently hasn’t forgotten)? Spurrier hated Georgia as a player- shouldn’t he have been the bigger man 30 years later and showed more sportsmanship? Was spurrier classless? Those were adults making those decisions. The flag planting was done by players, (whom many call kids vs young men-but that is another topic). Players could certainly be judged on a different scale. these are rivalry games. We ask our coaches to treat these games differently. To get the players fired up. To understand that these games mean more. As fans, we feel they mean more. As rivalry games, that makes them more important and the energy and fury is amped up. Which is what we ask for. At the end of what many of us deem battles and war vs a rival, that amped up energy is sometimes released in ways like th flag planting. I doubt i would do it in that situation but don’t begrudge others for doing so. Taking things like flag planting away may be good for avoiding conflict, similar to how they fine schools for rushing the field. But that is taking away and trying to put a clamp on what makes rivalry games special and different. my take on Norvell reaction….again, he is the adult. He is in charge. He should have ignored the flag planting. ( His players basically ignoring says something more about the program and what I see is a lack of belief or buy in of their program/coach). He got to enjoyed walking around with a gator skull, gator chomping, and sod stealing last year. This year he should have been his turn to take it like a man (ala Napier last year). As a gator fan, if stuff like flag planting happens for or against my team, you either get to enjoy it or take your medicine and play better next time. Some years you will have personalities on the team who does these things. Some years you don’t. It is all part of the greatest rivalries.
