Yes and 99% of those that bring in the weapons to Mexico are Mexican citizens or more than likely gangsters. Seems a secure border would solve that problem as well as many of ours.

Maybe they should execute their drug Lords, and they would not have to worry about the tariffs we will put on their goods... for letting DRUGS and criminals cross into our country. It's basic HOUSEKEEPING...

Unless I missed it Trump's concern with securing the border is to prevent unauthorized migration from Mexico to the US not the reverse. A Trump wall wouldn't prevent the smuggling of firearms purchased in the US from being smuggled into Mexico.

That sounds like an awesome idea.

Do you think that if they execute the "drug lords", then different ones will arise? Will that be a very violent process?* Would the flow of drugs then totally stop, absent any change in (almost entirely American) demand?

    * Those who follow the actual news know that this is precisely what has happened, and why Mexico is frequently hesitant to do precisely this.

Perhaps. I'm totally wondering why Trump didn't secure the border during his four years in office. But maybe he'll do it this time?

In the end, it’s really the chicken and the egg puzzle, isn’t it? Is it the drug lord that pushes the drugs, or the users that rabidly demand the drugs? Because in the end, IMO, the best way to stop the import of the illegal drugs is to pour resources into quelling the demand for the illegal drugs.

It seems to me that snipping the head of the snake just leads to the regeneration of the snake. Always has, and I suspect it always will.

The Mexican government, and all of Mexico, makes way too much money from drugs sales for them to takeout their own drug cartel... maybe we should show them how it's done.

You act as if we can't start charging entrance (increasing) fees for coming into the U.S.A. from Mexico. That will be the price they have to pay... the price that should never go away. They will eventually pay for that wall, if Trump's people are smart.

Also, the tinpot dictator of our Northern neighbor has flown to Mar-a-Lago. Reportedly he flew because he couldn’t travel that far on his knees

Where there is demand, supply will find a way to fill it. When has the law ever stopped anything illicit? See Prohibition as an example.

Charging Mexicans to enter the US would hurt border city businesses on the US side. Visit the Tucson Mall on any given weekend and 1/3 the cars have Mexican plates. Mexican nationals spend about $1 billion a year in Tucson. Charge for visits and that number drops.

As for going after cartel bosses, it would create a war within Mexico. Cartels are as well armed as the Mexican military. There would be no winners. Only bloodshed.

There are no good answers. The best answers is a guest worker program for immigrants so they can enter legally. And legalizing marijuana so it can be taxed to raise money to fight against harder drugs like fentanyl.

Did you forget Kamala switched her position on the wall? Maybe you should check in with HQ more often so you can keep your story straight.

So what does that mean “both sides suck”? Are you talking about politicians or voters in general?

The politicians out there are a reflection of what voters want.

this is all true. This is a serious issue but nobody wants to do what it may take to make a dent

    - pressure on Mexico and china to stem the supply
    - reducing the flow of illegal weapons into Mexico
    - addressing the demand side of the issue here

These are not easy lifts but they aren’t impossible either.

The politicians aren't what most voters want. They are what we are stuck with. What most of us would really want are not these elites we get stuck with. The people with real convictions can't fund a winnable campaign.

It means his side sucks and he knows it. But he's got to say both sides suck because he doesn't like Dems.

It’s even more confused in this case, because we are talking about the Mexican President which I’m sure none of us would likely know much about. Shows the “bothsiderism” isn’t much more than an autonomic response.
