I'm all for getting Thomas, but do we really need Alex Atkins?

I might be the only Gator fan alive that doesn't care about him.
He's 6'4", meaning he will probably play Guard. We already have last year's #1 IOL on the bench. The two starters this week could be a redshirt freshman and a true soph. Is he going to stick around to play? Should we pay big money for him to sit?

Good teams stack elite talent on top of elite talent. O’Cyrus Torrence started our success at interior OL and other players saw how he was developed by this staff. We are doing similar things at RB. Hopefully we can start doing this at other positions as well. Hopefully we get the same effect at QB with DJ, at DT with Banks, at LB with Graham, at WR with Pearsall, etc.

I agree about stacking talent but is difficult in the NIL era because the costs to pay a two deep on both sides of the ball on its own is a hefty payroll even without the rest of the roster payroll. Good teams are deep at OL so, who knows.

Don’t care about the $$, you can’t have enough talent on OL or DL. You never know when one might hit take a nap at a red light and condemn your program for 15 years.

Not that simple. Example: georgia has recruited OL well. They have a mix of 3,4,5 star types. Enough stay and with diligence on staff and players, enough develop. I would say, take all that you believe will develop, want to be Gators, and have the attitude you want. But what you said makes it sound like our portal OL were allowed to leave because the staff saw no future for them, same for our now successful OL that departed.

Nah, im saying georgia is Georgia because they recruit top classes every year and they always get the top linemen.

I think it has a lot to do with the optics. It says "UF signs the best" signing a #1player at a position or a 5 star is always great for recruiting for push.

Harris didn't sit his freshman year and was behind an established starter, but of course that starter needed to be upgraded and was for this year. We may need him for an upgrade.

However, I could see the logic of turning him down to splash cash on a can't miss safety, DT, OT or Edge.

Yes, I am just talking about history here of a true freshman playing. Lovett and Kearney were recruited not expecting to play as freshmen. Lovett is young.
