Yep, "serviceable" doesn't get you far in this conference, but I know you know that. Is there anything official which states he has been forced to agree to hire an OC? If it was simply a suggestion, might that suggestion have fallen by the wayside now given the two wins over LSU and Ole Miss? I am assuming Napier has more clout with Stricklin today than he did two weeks ago. In fact, you could make an argument (ill-advised though as it may be) that why would you want to rock the boat now and inject a new layer into the play-calling when we finally appear to be turning the corner? For that reason, my money is on no new OC is going to be hired while Napier is here. Unfortunately, I fear DJ Lagway's stats and accomplishments will be hampered by Napier's "serviceable offense." But, that didn't seem to affect Anthony Richardson's NFL draft prowess. That said, how many GMs are looking at Richardson and thinking they can no longer trust Napier to deliver the goods on a QB? Part of the reason so many Alabama players got drafted is because NFL scouts could safely rely on Nick Saban's track record as a talent developer. In any event, I would be all for an OC who can actually get Florida back where we used to be in our ability to recruit and develop the best of the best out of this state and elsewhere. We need a Harvin, Debose, Newton, Tebow, Caldwell, Hernandez.
Saban had the best talent money could buy. Tua and Jalen came in as big time qb recruits and made immediate impacts. JPW, Mac Jones and Bryce Young have been total busts in the NFL. You indict Napier over 1 year with Anthony Richardson? I mean I'm a critic of Napier in noted areas but I try and stay objective about the recent turnaround. He certainly has concerns going forward so I don't understand the need to make such dishonest arguments against him.
How are they dishonest arguments? Until CBN gives us evidence to suggest otherwise, we have to go with the evidence we have. That's really all we can do at this stage, right? That doesn't mean Napier can't change the perception with new evidence down the line, but he needs to do that first before we just assume that something is going to turn out differently in regards to QB development. With our last HBC we had several examples of him developing QB's and doing so well. We don't have that with Napier, but we do have a physical specimen (AR) who largely unperformed under Napier to reference. It's not an open and shut case, but I'm not just going to assume something will change in a positive direction until it does. Lagway has made some good plays and the talent he has is obvious. So there won't be any excuses if Lagway's production turns out to be less than stellar. All the top QBs in college football stuff the stat sheet week in and week out. This happens not only because said QBs are very good, but because their coaches know how to maximize their talent within their system and how to showcase their talent to pro scouts as well. Now obviously, this is very subject to change, but a glance at Lagway's current stats don't exactly project Jaxson Dart, Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward like production. So we're going to see how well Napier is able to bring along Lagway pretty quickly.
Saying the NFL can't trust Napier because of Richardson is far from a fair assessment. He had 1 year with him. Mullen had 2 and left an underdeveloped product. Even still I wouldn't put Richardsons shortcomings on Mullen although I don't know that he invested as much in him as he did Jones for some reason. Also, Saban didn't develop McElroy, JPW, Mac Jones or Bryce Young into successful NFL qbs. Tua came in as a phenom and Hurts had his best year at Oklahoma. It's just consistent with your arguments which are full of ascriptions and definitive indictments of Napier along with hyperbolic praise and attributions to other coaches.
Its harder to climb the higher you go. A 4 star will jump you higher when you're 50th vs a 5 star when you're 17th.
smh... Wuerffel was the 99th overall pick in the 4th round of the NFL draft. When an NFL team drafts a QB that late, they're assuming a high probability that QB will not make very far it in the NFL. I don't think you know much about football.
The fact that you made the point to say teams will be shy to trust any coach based off the only QB who played for him for 1 year shows how little YOU actually know about football. Everyone except 1 GM knew that AR couldn’t start day 1 for their team. That’s not on the college coach, that’s on the dumb GM.
