What do people think of the nomination of General Keith Kellogg to be the Special Envoy to Ukraine and Russia. I'm hear some suggesting that this may signal Trump is going to take a tougher negotiating stance with Putin. Thoughts?

Excluding duggers_dad has anyone here really absorbed what the new Russian Oreshnik missile can do? It's being described as having the effect of a nuclear bomb without the radiation. Russia is working on a line of similar short and intermediate weapons with similar capabilities:

you cant be serious. Nearly 3 years into a war with a country with a much smaller force under arms and they had to start importing a foreign legion cause its going so badly for the indomitable Russian forces.
    I give you 3 C’mon Ivans.

All that info is according to the Russians and their military. If the S-400’s were really as good as they claim, they would be able to stop ATACMS that were manufactured in the 1990’s. Based off the open source reporting out of Kursk, that did not happen. So if an S-400 cannot stop an ATACMS from the ‘90’s, what makes you think the S-500 can actually do what the Russians claim?

Might want to check that link.

What you are claiming is like what the old Athlon and Lindy’s pre-season college football magazine use to claim in late July about how the season could play out. The fact is that we almost done with the regular season and all those systems have had their time in the field. Russia’s latest technology and force advantage cannot help them decisively defeat the AFU which is using hand me down US technology that is at least a generation old and new to them. Every time you hear about some “new Russian technology” that is a game changer, you should ask why Russia has not been using it by now.

When it comes to Russian technology, tell them you are from Missouri and you have to “Show me.”

I think he is a serious man who will have to be taken seriously by all stakeholders. This bodes much better than if the President had appointed, say, a member of his family, some MAGA sycophant who had lost his run for Congress, or a lawyer with no understanding of the military realities but who thinks he’s a great negotiator. As with all things, we shall see.

It certainly flies in the face of “Trump will hand Putin a blank form to fill out the parameters of the ceasefire” doesn’t it? What an outlandishly stupid suggestion by the left when all available evidence suggests President Trump views Russia as his bitch.

A lot of Trumpers forget that in all of Trump's excitement about building a 2,000-mile wall with Mexico during 2017-2020, he failed to do anything more than build a 54-mile fence in an area that already had a fence. The difference between then and now is that many republican Senators and Congressmen have even less respect for Trump than they did before, and Trump is removing several of his supporters from those positions to take up cabinet positions.

General Petreaus had been on FNC as well as NBC, ABC, MSNBC, etc. Does anyone doubt him as a serious strategist? Just keep him away from the married biographers, and you’ll keep him on task ;)

    Sanctions, sanctions, sanctions.

Last Thursday the US imposed sanctions on Gazprombank, which had not been sanctioned up until then as "friendly" countries were engaged in natural gas purchases from Russia. Gazprombank processes all of the payments for Russia's government owned gas business. This was the main source of Russia's foreign currency which it used to prop up the Ruble. With that source of foreign currency gone, the Ruble lost 10% of its value....YESTERDAY. It fell against all currencies, not just the dollar. In response, the Bank of Russia announced it will not purchase any foreign currency through the end of 2024, essentially closing the market on the Ruble. Per the first video, Russia's actual inflation rate is approaching 30% as opposed to the announced 8.4%.

If the US abandons Ukraine I hope Europe gives us the finger and continues military support.

Yep.. the same ones predicting now Congress will somehow force President Trump to keep the arms flowing are the same people who told us Biden was not only competent, but that he was going to win and on and and on and on... their violent war is coming to an end and they don't know what to do with themselves.

Continue what support? The U.S. has been doing a majority of the heavy lifting and providing most of the material support. Europe has already been giving us the finger. Maybe you just want them to switch hands?

Well, I don’t think the first thing will happen, but if it does the second almost certainly will.
