I'm not saying the game isn't important. Sorry if I wasn't clear. Of course it is. My reference was to the medias take that Napiers future would be determined by it. Also I do feel that the won-lost record has less effect on recruiting than before because of NIL and the portal.
That sums up why I stay far, far away from Finebaum, I have a really low tolerance for low class idiots screaming nonsense. It’s The Jerry Springer Show with football and a less likable host.
This is hilarious. Saban knew to retire now that NIL has evened the playing field. If you got a lot of NIL bucks you can buy a good team. That dude needs to get used to it.
Is this now the longest thread in GC history? Also is this the same swamp gas forum I was on back in 2012ish?
Niche interest message boards are peak Internet usage. I'd prefer to not deal with casuals/totally disinterested folks chiming in on my special interests. Let the 95% argue on X/FB etc.
Yeah, bu you gotta admit-- the line about going to bed with Beyonce and waking up with Whoopi Goldberg was about @#$%& hilarious!
Yeah, idk. We have 2 Top 100 recruits. I feel like given the lack of depth we have and our struggles up until recently, we should have a surefire Top 10 ranked recruit committed to UF. The other programs are going to add recruits as well. The volume argument doesn't make me feel good, because all that proves is that the SEC blue bloods can recruit well, rinse and repeat better than we can. It has gotten better in the last few weeks, but truth be told, we never should have fallen to the depths we were in. The rap is that the SEC blue bloods have been consistently outrecruiting UF for several years now. That needs to change if we want to be a playoff contender. Until Napier pulls a Top 5 class, I'm not getting excited about recruiting. Yes, I am spoiled. Spurrier, Zook and Meyer spoiled me. At least get us in the top quarter of the conference recruiting wise just once.. one year is all I ask.
Nobody seems to want to hear this but he has some good points. There are still some coaching issues there…just watch the GNFP and they are obvious. I really enjoyed the last few wins but there are still concerns and still a lot to play out.
This is basically what I said when I laid out the "Lagway balls out" scenario in this thread. That would only prove to me that Lagway is on the level of Winston, Burrow, Newton, etc in that he is a talent that can basically single-handedly with at least a competent cast around him, elevate the team to national championship-contender levels and make a bad coach look good. With that said, now that things have played out, I've softened a lot on that stance. Though I stand by it and more or less am back in wait-and-see mode on Napier. BUT there is something to be said for the back that he got these boys to play after to Georgia game in which I 100% expected the team to mail it in after that. There is something to be said for a coach that in this day in age can get kids to want to run through walls for him. If he can step back and accept a program CEO, recruiter, and mentor to players role as head coach, I think he can be damn near elite with the level he's shown that he can connect with players both in recruiting and how hard they play for him. With that, I hope the rumors are true that he's being forced to hire an OC. Because I think really that's the last major sticking point: he needs to take his hands off the wheel when it comes to play calling and let the coordinators be the executives of their departments. I really think he's still trying to "prove himself" as OC as weird as that sounds from getting canned at Clemson and run off at other places before becoming a head coach. I think he's still trying to prove his offense works. It might have in the Sun Belt but we really do need an SEC-level OC as proven by the play calling and the many blunders that seem to come from juggling too many things at once and probably wouldn't have been an issue for someone exclusive focused on the offense and personnel.
He’s going to step back now and let an OC take credit away from him for Lagway’s sophomore and junior campaigns? That just doesn’t seem realistic to me.
Yeah. Didn't say it was likely. I'd give it about a 50/50 shot. Apparently he's being forced to hire an OC as a condition of staying. We'll see if he's another Muschamp who can't keep his hands out of the cookie jar. To be completely fair, Napier's offense isn't a TOTAL disaster. Its serviceable. But that's also his biggest problem - its JUST serviceable. And the major issues are related to situational awareness like down and distance and having some sort of macro-level scheme for the game rather than seemingly firing from the hip. I COULD see a scenario where he's asking for deep balls and certain plays and the offense still works fine, so long as he doesn't meddle too much and allows the overall game plan of the OC to generally play out. Its NOT like Muschamp where he clearly put restraints on his OCs to play for time of possession and not to put his defense in a bad position thereby neutering what ANY OC could do - even if it was technically true he didn't call the plays.
