Even conceding that both Tesla and SpaceX are excellent companies neither should be free from oversight. SpaceX and several other Musk companies have contracts with the government totaling over $15 billion. By virtue of that sum alone they shouldn't be exempt from oversight. Tesla is being investigated by the NHTSA following fatal accidents resulting from its autonomous driving system. It's also being investigated by SEC and NLRB. Once Trump takes office all of those investigations will disappear. SpaceX is currently being investigated by FAA.

I don't think that situation will last much longer than six months. Trump's Narcissistic Personality Disorder is such that he cannot stand to share the limelight with anyone else and that includes Elon Musk. Trump is also really transactional. If Musk's cost cutting proposals would harm Trump's core constituency of working class white voters Trump would ditch Elon before actually implementing them through executive order or proposing them to Congress.

And that’s where they add their plan to end work-from-home policies introduced during the Covid era: “Requiring federal employees to come to the office five days a week would result in a wave of voluntary terminations that we welcome. If federal employees don’t want to show up, American taxpayers shouldn’t pay them for the Covid-era privilege of staying home,” they write.

Not until 2021 was Tesla able to post a profit without the help of credit sales. Without regulatory credits, Musk wouldn’t be the richest person in the world.

This year, California regulators said Tesla violated air-pollution permits at its Fremont factory 112 times over the past five years and alleged it repeatedly failed to fix equipment designed to reduce emissions, releasing thousands of pounds of toxic chemicals in excess of permissible limits into the surrounding communities. “Even after extensive discussion,” Tesla’s efforts “have not been enough to stem the violations,” the abatement order from the Bay Area Air Quality Management District read. Tesla denied the allegations in the state proceeding. Since the order was filed, the regulator has issued 75 additional notices of violations to Tesla, according to a spokesperson.

Musk’s rocket company, SpaceX, has also had run-ins with regulators in Texas and community pushback in Florida, including over the impact of its launches on local plants and animals. Federal regulators recently fined the company for dumping about 262,000 gallons of wastewater from launches into wetlands in Texas without a permit. SpaceX has denied the allegations.

In a lawsuit filed this week at a Texas court, Cards Against Humanity alleges SpaceX has essentially treated the game company’s property — located in Cameron County — as its own for at least the past six months.

The lawsuit said SpaceX, which had previously acquired other plots of land near the property, has placed construction materials, such as gravel, and other debris on the land without asking for permission to do so.

SpaceX did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Cards Against Humanity, which is headquartered in Chicago, had purchased the plot of land in 2017 as part of what it said was a stunt to oppose former president Donald Trump’s efforts to build a border wall.
