Among the proposals/plans that RFK has thrown out is wanting to remove fluoride from the drinking water. Can't say I know much about it other than it's supposed to be good for your teeth ...

What to know about fluoride in water following RFK Jr.'s health claims

I will say we use toothpaste without Fluoride (will use toothpaste with it if that is what is available). The science is changing. Not an exact answer for sure. And I think this is a dumb thing to make a huge issue over. It should not be political. I will not lose sleep over water having fluoride in it. But I will say you may not want to have it every time you visit the dentist unless you have a history of real decay issues. We do not recommend it for our patients unless there is a real reason or they really want it.

General Ripper warned us long ago about the corruption of our precious bodily fluids via the fluoridation of drinking water. High time we listened.

Anecdotal. Upper 40s. Have grown up on fluoridated water my whole life. Drink tap water daily. Never had a cavity.

I'm indifferent to the issue as I don't know enough either way. A doctor I used to work for was the same although he said fluoride was a waste product that turned into a profit maker for companies that once had to dispose of it as a byproduct.

Fluoride is the equivalent of a daily vaccine for the teeth. Removing it would be foolish at best

Huh, where I live there are communities that have fluoride and some that don’t. Local dentists here claim they can tell if a patient grew up living in a community with fluorinated water or without.

Well, I grew up in the country where we had a well, no fluoride in our water and yet somehow my mom, dad, brother and myself never had issues, but we did brush our teeth twice a day

Dr. Ladapo held a press conference recently with a public warning over fluoride.

Floridians should be aware of safety concerns related to systemic fluoride exposure, including:

    • Adverse effects in children reducing IQ, cognitive impairment, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
    • Increased neurobehavioral problems in children whose mothers ingested fluoride during pregnancy.
    • Accumulation of fluoride in the pineal gland, causing sleep cycle disturbance.
    • Skeletal fluorosis, which could increase the risk of bone fracture.
    • Potential risk of premature menarche in adolescent girls.
    • Potential suppression of the thyroid gland by inhibiting iodine absorption.

Apparently, some of the conclusions drawn in this country originate from studies done in other countries where the fluoridation levels are higher.

    https://www.npr.org/sections/shots-...on-general-ladapo-rfk-fluoride-drinking-water

The National Toxicology Program published a systematic review in August of research about the association between fluoride exposure and neurodevelopment and cognition. It concluded that higher levels of fluoride exposure, such as drinking water containing more than 1.5 milligrams of fluoride per liter, are associated with lower IQ in children.

That is twice as much as the 0.7 milligrams of fluoride per liter of water that U.S. health officials recommend for community water supplies.

"The determination about lower IQs in children was based primarily on epidemiology studies in non-U.S. countries such as Canada, China, India, Iran, Pakistan, and Mexico where some pregnant women, infants, and children received total fluoride exposure amounts higher than 1.5 mg fluoride/L of drinking water," the NTP noted in the report.

Scientists added there was "insufficient data" to determine if the lower level recommended in the U.S. has a negative effect on children's IQ. The NTP added there was no evidence fluoride exposure had adverse effects on cognition in adults.

Greater danger of reduced IQ by listening to anything he says. Check the Covid thread.

Likely more due to fluoride treatment (or having more of it). It can stain your teeth. Like mine…:)

Really interesting stuff out there when it comes to health. I can tell you my wife has had direct communication with experts in the field as she continue to grow in the field. The connection with the body and Nitric Oxide is fascinating.

Again. I am not arguing to remove it from water either. Just think there are reasons to consider what works best.

Just curious, what’s the fluoride level in drinking water in England?

The levels in those studies are much much higher than in our dri king water. More gas lighting from a quack

As a dentist/oral surgeon, I wholeheartedly recommend Fluoride in toothpaste and municipal water.

If you lived out here in Los Angeles like I do you wouldn't drink tap water.
They discover more drugs and toxins thrown in our water almost every day.
The problem with fluoride is the amount can vary significantly from municipality to municipality these days.

Even without fluoridation, the natural levels of fluoride in water in some places can be higher than 4 mg/L. Community water systems in such areas are required to lower the fluoride level below the acceptable standard. But the levels in private water sources, such as wells, may still be higher.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that parents give children under the age of 6 only a pea-sized amount of toothpaste for brushing, and should do their best to make sure their children are not swallowing, as this can be a significant source of fluoride. Speak to your child’s dentist before using fluoride toothpaste in children under 2 years of age. Low- and no-fluoride toothpastes and other dental products are also available.

I've been fortunate enough to have decent municipal water where I live. Probably would be more conscientious if I lived any number of other places.

How many people only drink bottled water now anyway? Is there fluoride in bottled water? My wife buys bottled water all the time and keeps it in the fridge since we don't have water tapped into the fridge. I have never thought about the fluoride issue with it before now.
