Probably a secondary factor to not getting into a US school. I don’t think anyone goes to the Caribbean if they have another option, fishing enthusiasts included. Plenty of good students don’t get into US med schools so I am not saying this candidate or your friend are bad docs, just likely that they didnt get into US schools, which seems odd for a Surgeon General.

I looked at attending med school back in the day. If I had gone that route and couldn’t get into my top picks I would have gone to a school in the Caribbean over a far more expensive US school that is far down the rankings/prestige scale.

I am pretty sure there are no Caribbean schools ranked ahead of a single US medical school. They say your Med School in the US isn’t nearly as important as your residency since all US schools use the same instructional criteria - MD schools. I am not as familiar with DO schools.

My nephew went to Vet school in the Cayman Islands. I think he went there because he was an avid fisherman though not so much for the education.

I know some of the Caribbean medical schools are very tough to get into. I know they're accredited (at least the legit ones.) Outside of that I couldn't tell you how they compare.

Apparently, it is a med school owned by the people who used to own Devry. Actually went to an urgent care doc once who went there (she had her degree up in her office). That experience does not give me a ton of confidence in her ability...

Not sure if you’re being tongue in cheek about Vitamin C vs viruses but there is plenty of evidence it is helpful for some. Mind you I have no idea about the details in the book so speak of.

I know numerous great MDs who did this also. Often it was for reasons other than an inability to get into a US Med school.
