While my wife and I have tickets to Wicked tonight I couldnt drag her to Gladiator II if she were tied to my truck. I doubt it will have the duo impact that Barbie & Oppenheimer did but I suspect Wicked may be bigger than Barbie. Good luck getting tickets in an Imax this weekend. They are pretty sold out. I used to feel the same way: I like plays. I like concerts. No need to put them together. Then the Crowe/Hathaway Les Mis came out and changed my mind on musicals. (Watching Anne can make me do all sorts of new things). I kinda like 'em now. Hamilton? You didn't like that?
I watched Red One two nights ago, it was terrible. Trailer looked great, but all of the interesting stuff was in the trailer.
Yeah, I'm not a big Broadway guy but West Side Story (the original, not the recent remake) is one of my favorite movies of all time. The music, the dancing, the sets, the colors... Stunning.
You wanna be an American? Lol... Good movie. The last musical that came out in the theaters, later TV, that I liked... was probably Greese. Those recent Disney flicks are geared for kids.
I saw wicked on stage years ago. Looking back, I’d rather watch city and dang play with their Barbies instead.
I used to feel that way. Made fun of the idea of the Sharks and the Jets breaking into song and dance on the streets of NYC. Yeah, those are tough gangbangers, all right. Then I started going to them as they came through Jacksonville. Fully enjoyed most of them. And I think Wicked was the best. I surprised it's taken this long to make the movie. Saw Hamilton movie, not live on stage. Just superb.
@citygator - Let me know how many theater kids are in the audience tonight and are performing their own sing along during the movie. My wife wants to see it but said she wants to wait until all the theater kids are done watching it.
It would drive me nuts enough having to go see Wicked (and, yes, there is someone out there who can strip me of my agency and force me to endure it), but having to listen to people in the audience sing along might send me over the edge. I would be equally impressed with people in the audience citing the lines from Gladiator 2 along with the actors on screen while I'm trying to listen. "Hey, buddy, you know why they're singing that tune?" "No ..." "So you don't have to!"
There was a story this morning about people singing during the show. They indicated that next month they will be targeting shows for people who want to sing along
I have season tickets to “broadway across America”. Hamilton was good. Just saw MJ the musical a couple weeks ago. Music was good, plot sucked.
Wicked looked lame as hell me, and I didn’t realize anyone asked for a Gladiator “sequel”? These seem more like “wait to see on home video”, as was Barbie for me. Oppenheimer was the only one that was must see in theater.
Oppenheimer I enjoyed. Barbie was pretty underwhelming. Some funny moments but hardly worth the hype.
Wife said it was so good she can’t put into words. I think she alternated laughing with crying for 3 hours. I thought it was solid. Felt like about a hour and a half to me. Two leads were quite good in my opinion. Clever twist on Wizard of Oz. Glad I saw. Songs were catchy.
The Greatest Showman several years back was pretty good, though I'm a mushy dad who took his daughters and they loved it.
