Agree although I'm more concerned with Trump's nomination of Tulsi Gabbard as the DNI, not only is she unqualified for the position she also represents a real threat to national security if confirmed.

I'm kind of giving this a 'boo' rating.

I mean, since it should be taken for granted that the imperative of the Trump Justice Department will be to enable Trump to commit crimes without being punished, and to punish and threaten his enemies.....having Pedo Matt* in office wasn't going to be very different from having anyone else. Better, perhaps, because PM was totally unqualified.

But most importantly, the laughs at Trump and MAGA would have been huge.

    * I keep seeing Joe Biden referred to as "Pedo Joe", so this is OK now, right?

Yep, already addressed multiple times upthread. You can't blame me for wanting it, though. I could swing a dead cat in Pensacola and hit a Republican that I would prefer representing Escambia County in Congress.

And it is still possible that Trump knew this was going to happen all along and made a pact with Gaetz for him to be a sacrificial lamb in order to test party loyalty to him and to make the replacement pick more attractive.

The AG nomination was an escape plan for him. I don't think he wants to go back and face that report.

Sure, but the people of Escambia County want Gaetz. We'll see what he does.

Right. A win-win for Gaetz and Trump. Gaetz may land a cushy job at Newsmax or Fox News. It seems likely, in fact.

Does Gaetz’s withdrawal mean other questionable nominations have an easier time? Regrettably, i would think so.

Yup, you are right, I read something into the headline that wasn't there ...

"He made the announcement after CNN asked him about accusations of a second sexual encounter with a 17-year-old at a 2017 party"

Yep, and the people of Minnesota's 5th District want Ilhan Omar for similarly inexplicable reasons. Same with Rashida Tlaib in Meatchicken's 12th District, AOC in New York's 14th District, and so on. One of the pains of democratic institutions is that stupid people are allowed to vote for stupid people to represent them. And the only recourse for people like myself who believe in a republican form of government but want only good, smart people leading it is to pray for events that legally keep stupid people out of Congress, such as one where a member resigned but then had the next job pulled out from under them. A Taipan can dream if nothing else.

Yeah, I mean other than allegations which haven't been proven, what specifically do you have beef with Gaetz over? His position on Ukraine? Some day I hope you'll be able to admit it was a failed venture.

Good point. I can do better, though.

I'm really just angling into being able to use "Rapey Trumputin." I figure if a mod is doing "Pedo Joe", I should have a greenlight.....

Only it wasn't Trump playing 3-D chess so that his backup nominee for AG would be confirmed. He genuinely thought that the Senate would rubber stamp his selection of Matt Gaetz. Same for all of his other nominees. After all Trump beat Kamala Harris in the popular vote by a 1.7% margin giving him a real mandate or at least that's what he thought considering that was the narrative by Republican politicians and the right-wing media.

Failed venture for Russia, yes. A smashing success for the US and NATO. Got 2 new NATO members and humiliated Russia on the battlefield, showing Putin the cost of invading his neighbors.

Truth be told, after further review, it's almost plain as day this is what Trump's plan was all along. Blanche already on deck as the deputy AG nominee, he just slides into that lead role. And he's a perfect sigue from Gaetz. Blanche has been quite effective for Trump and honestly, I think Blanche is probably better qualified and just as willing to do Trump's bidding. Trump is playing this brilliantly.
