Florida College Shows How to Reform Woke Public Universities From the article Carrie Sheffield Carrie Sheffield is the author of "Motorhome Prophecies: A Journey of Healing and Forgiveness.” A new book out this week gives a blueprint for freedom-loving governors to fight back and stop the waste of taxpayer money subsidizing public universities that are cesspools of Marxism and propaganda undermining Western civilization. This book, which supplies a path out, is titled “Storming the Ivory Tower: How a Florida College Became Ground Zero in the Struggle to Take Back Our Campuses.” It is a firsthand account from Richard Corcoran, president of New College of Florida, a public liberal arts college in Sarasota, Florida.
I urge you to click on the "Carrie Sheffield" link above and just take a quick look at the titles of the articles that whack job has authored. Here are a few of my favorites.: "Women Are Dying Because Biden-Harris’ FDA Removed Safeguards on Abortion Pills" "Kamala Harris, Pro-Crime Candidate for President" "Democrats’ Jan. 6 Fiasco Is Just Another Example of Conservatives Being Treated as Second-Class Citizens"
Didn’t UF drop like 20 places in college rankings? Edit… actually, it was 34 places, by that lefty Wall Street Journal rag….
Didn't they change the formula? The current formula is 70%, 20%, 10% for student outcomes, learning environment, and diversity, respectively. UF tuition cost to outcome ratio is one of the best money can buy. The reality is that UF is a really solid education and the WSJ is just another data point.
Today's college and universities are too much into politics of hate and shaming. They attempt to shame us for our success as a nation. And I can see the indoctrination in these kids when they graduate... anecdotally speaking from personal interactions. We need to ditch all subjects that pertain to identity politics and sexuality in all grade schools... and in colleges/universities' prerequisite courses. We need to only fund STEM (maybe add Physical Education, Art and Music) curriculum courses and let these kids pay out of pocket for those social engineering classes.
Speaking only from my experience, where my son graduated from UF 3 years ago and my daughter graduates in December, this is not accurate. At least as related to me, their college experience wasn’t much different from mine in the mid-80’s, except that it was more competitive.
I just love how some folks throw around the word "woke" without an understanding of the true meaning of the term. Perhaps they simply can't tolerate "kindness" and "respect for others", seeing it as " bleeding heart" liberalism.
College is a place where diversity is necessary,IMO. It’s a place where you learn, and experience, to prepare you for the real world. And the real world isn’t identical to the neighborhood where you grew up, it is filled with people of every color and belief, and where divergent views leads to discussion and, dare I say, creative approaches to form unique solutions to problems. Yes, merit should be paramount, as it is in the real world, but the one place where we need diversity is the university environment.
'Woke' only teaches kindness and respect for certain groups. Fortunately, it looks like most of America has realized that.
Good. The angry, nerdy libbie thing wasn’t working out. Let’s get UF back to normal. No need to try and behave like the libbie NE schools.
“Woke” has just become a catch-all negative word that many on the right use to lump everything they don’t like. As meaningless as “elites” and “activist” judges.
How could anyone say that UF or most any Florida university isn’t already diverse? I thought it was pretty damn diverse when I was in school. Surely it’s more so today.
You want to treat people by race, sexuality, 'gender', etc. I don't think that's acceptable. There's plenty of diversity without creating it artificially.
Remind us exactly who was the last UF president and his "angry, nerdy libbie" agenda. Do you even think at all before posting?
