I am surprised they haven't resurrected another Ghost of Kyiv fairy tale to try and motivate the gullible.
perhaps some command staff were in residence or it is a strategic telecommunications hub?? or maybe just a psych op to put another dent in his invincibility. don't know
so if Putin tried to use the cover of a Chinese ship, likely the second time, and if Xi didn't know about it, will that upset Xi or will he take his chip and his plausible deniability and play another day? This article confirms that the chinese ship that tore through a gas line and a data cable also had a russian crew follow the money, who owns the ships, were there unusual payments should this have its own thread? will this go to UN or ? China has been silent on the ship detainment so far Chinese-Registered Ship Is Held in Baltic Sea Sabotage Investigation Detaining a foreign vessel without a warrant is unusual. However, a rarely used article in a centuries-old convention could give the Danes the legal authority to detain the Yi Peng 3, said Kenneth Øhlenschlæger Buhl, a military analyst and expert on maritime law with the Royal Danish Defense College. Some say the aggressive move by the Danish navy signals a change in policy: In similar situations, North Atlantic Treaty Organization allies—who otherwise stand for upholding freedom of navigation across the globe—have stopped short of detaining merchant ships. Western allies have been sending warships to the South China Sea to secure commercial shipping lanes and counter what they claim is China’s aggressive posture on the region. Several officials familiar with the investigation said that Russia is suspected to be behind the sabotage, and that its operatives could have used the Chinese-registered ship to provide plausible deniability. Two officials said it was unlikely that the Chinese government was aware of the plot ............................................................... The development resembles a similar incident from October last year, when a Chinese-flagged ship called Newnew Polar Bear cut a gas pipeline and a data cable with its anchor, and then proceeded on its route to Russia’s Arctic coast. At the time, the Chinese vessel, which carried a Russian crew, was followed but not stopped by NATO ships. .............................................................. Since the launch of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Kremlin has been accused by Western officials of waging a shadow war on European soil. They allege Russia was behind a plot to place incendiary devices on airplanes, instigated arson attacks in the U.K. and the Czech Republic, and ordered sabotage operations on military and industrial installations in Germany. It is also accused of orchestrating attacks on pipelines and data cables in the Baltic and the Arctic, and tampering with water supplies in Sweden and Finland. ................................ Previous sabotage incidents that went unpunished have likely prompted the Danes to prepare, legally and logistically, to intervene in similar scenarios, Buhl, the military analyst, said. The incidents the 2021 disappearance of an underwater monitoring cable off the North Norwegian coast that coincided with mysterious movements of a fishing trawler, the 2022 Nord Stream pipeline explosions, or last year’s pipeline and cable incident involving the Chinese ship Newnew Polar Bear. “There is undoubtedly a need, this time, to try to find a smoking gun,” he said.
No. Everybody wants the war to end, but not with Ukraine surrendering territory. And if my fellow Republicans think it’s OK for UKraine to surrender territory to appease the motherfluckin Putin, then my fellow Republicans have lost their way. Ronald Reagan would punch you in the face for suggesting it. If giving up territory is no big deal, how about we just give Alaska back to Russia to end the war. Is that OK?
To be fair, we know he's not making these decisions. He's upstairs watching a Lawrence Welk rerun and having some pudding before 7 pm curfew. Whoever is making these decisions is reckless and could care less about the welfare of the Ukrainians and NATO country's civilians. These missiles being shot into Russia either have to be guided by the US or another NATO country. Imagine if, say, Canada or Mexico shot Chinese missiles at the US that had to be guided by the Chinese. We would go to war with China. I am shocked at how recklessly this lame-duck administration is acting. There are factions within the Russian government that think Putin is soft and want him to do more.
Well, now we all know who this is. Thanks for playing “How fast can I get put on ignore by the adults in the room.”
“There are numerous reasons why Russian soldiers lucky enough to return from the war would think they are above the law. Official media call them "heroes," and President Vladimir Putin has dubbed them Russia's new "elite". Those recruited into the army from prisons either had their convictions removed or they were pardoned.” Russia's soldiers bringing wartime violence back home - BBC News
You mean, like how Russia dominated the Black Sea with their powerful navy, against a country with NO navy? If Ukraine gets enough weapons and artillery to match the quantities the Russians have (but have the additional quality that western weapons are known for), Russia doesn't stand a chance. Fighting Russia to a draw for over two years with a fraction of Russia's manpower and weapons is an amazing feat.
It's "common sense policy" now to surrender entire countries to our enemies, as long as they want the country enough to invade it? Was that a smart idea in 1939, when western countries did NOTHING when Germany invaded Poland? Is it smart to wait until a country has gotten powerful enough through conquests to be a much greater threat to the U.S. before considering to oppose their conquests? You do know that a minor military effort by England and France would have defeated Hitler in early-1940, don't you? Or are you looking for "peace in our time"?
In addition to firing ATACMS into Russian territory, Ukraine has also started firing British Storm Shadow missiles into Russia. https://edition.cnn.com/2024/11/20/...-shadow-missiles-russia-intl-latam/index.html
Nobody is stopping you from going over there and fighting, chem. If you feel so strongly about it, why are you not there?
Are you talking about the same Ronald Reagan who withdrew from Lebanon after the Marine barracks massacre?
No one is categorizing Russia's invasion of Ukraine as "conquest" because it doesn't "align with our interests". What a stupid statement! We are calling it conquest because it IS conquest. Russia's excuses for the invasion just don't hold water. Ukraine was not a Nazi country (with a Jewish leader!). Ukraine joining NATO was not a threat to Russia. NATO has always been a peaceful organization, and has done no more than try to contain Russia's expansionist tendencies. When is the last time Russia was invaded? Yeah, 1943. And yes, western countries rallied to help Russia defeat the Germans. If Russia had not maintained one of the largest militaries in the world, NATO probably would have dissolved decades ago. In all of the invasions of other countries that the U.S. has been involved in, the U.S. gave back the country to the local people after they were finished with it. We took no oil from Iraq, and no minerals from Afghanistan. It's intellectually dishonest to categorize something as "not conquest" when it clearly is conquest. Russia has no intention of giving back Ukraine to the Ukrainians after they resolve whatever imaginary problem they are there to take care of. Russia's oligarchs (and probably Putin himself) have already picked out their vacation properties in Crimea, and Russian mining companies can't wait to get their hands on the $12 trillion in mineral wealth in Ukraine, just like Putin can't wait to get his hands on Ukraine's farmland, and weaponize it against the world. Having people starving in third world countries is not good for Americans, or have you forgotten how the starving people in Afghanistan allowed Al Qaeda to move in and set up training camps before attacking the U.S. on 9-11? Do you want to see more 9-11's? Will that make you mad enough to want to do something?
Silly question. Not necessary when Ukraine will do it if adequately supplied with the proper weapons.
