Would trump push self-driving cars if musk wasn’t deeply entrenched in the trump admin? Is this a kickback for Elon’s ongoing advertising getting out Trump’s political messages?

“Tesla stock was popping again early Monday as President-elect Donald Trump’s team reportedly plans to hand key ally Elon Musk another win.

Members of Trump’s transition team have said they plan to make a federal framework for fully autonomous vehicles a priority for the incoming Department of Transportation“

Tesla stock spikes 7% because Trump might hand Elon Musk another win

Once again proof that Trump is (or will be) the best president that money can buy. The stock market is already anticipating that Elon Musk will receive a substantial return on his investment in Donald Trump.

Funny. Gas guzzling freedom to drive righties pushing electric automation vehicles. It would drastically reduce road deaths, the biggest truly avoidable cause of death. I would love a fully autonomous drive to work where i could work in the car instead of mindlessly idle on the days I need to be the office.

Imagine Fox News if AOC made this proposal.

I am enjoying the leap left of the GOP to please Trump's whims. Looking forward to the journey.

Its what I've been saying for years. MAGA has no platform or key tenets, really. Maybe a few like "illegal immigrants bad." And then watching them try and twist things like price controls on credit cards and autonomous vehicles at a moments notice is stunning to witness.

It's more and more how I think Trump won the election. If you told 100 Trump voters that AOC was pushing autonomous vehicles they'd lose their mind.

    bought and paid for

if he has his way, Musk will buy NASA next for a cheap, uncontested, price

Here's How Much NASA Is Paying Per Seat on SpaceX's Crew Dragon & Boeing's Starliner

Space X is already cheaper than Boeing or what the US was paying the Russians to send astronauts to the ISS.

Wow! I can't think of anything more MAGA than self-driving cars.

This honestly is the best thing trump could have done. The fossils fuel car industry is a dinosaur and needs to end. They can transition or die.

At this point the question may be who will end up receiving a greater return on their investment in Trump, Elon Musk or the fossil fuel industry?

I found this chart which shows the cost of putting an astronaut into space all the way back to the Mercury program. It is adjusted for inflation.

Elon Musk’s Spacex and Tesla are two outstanding companies. His tunneling company is interesting but I am unsure ho that is going to work long term. Buying twitter renaming it and allowing it to become a cesspool of nonsense seems wrongheaded to me. His support of trump seems to go against everything he said he stood for. Time will tell

Interesting. I wonder what’s included in the cost? The first few on the list were pioneers, and the research costs for those projects were extensive, requiring larger teams compared to today. For example, comparing the ENIAC (about $7 million in today’s dollars) to a modern laptop. I know it’s not quite an apples-to-apples comparison, but you get my gist.

I agree, to be fair I would take the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs out of the comparisons and just leave the Shuttle program in the discussion. With Apollo we were not only going into orbit, we went to the Moon.

That’s because it is just populism. There is no overarching philosophy of populism - its just whatever the leader says it is and it doesn’t end well (see Jan 6, 2021).

yes, they benefitted from long legacy costs at NASA and advanced the science significantly. They also ignore FAA rules, environmental rules, trespassing rules, EPA rules, wetland impact rules, and local rules...but what are rules to oligarchs anyway other than just a cost of doing business?

ends justifies the means? is that where we are as a country?..foolish me, look who we just elected..i guess we do believe the ends justifies the means..

now all we have to determine is what the ends are as the means are justifiable?? just stand a little bit further out on that slippery slope...

plus need to factor in potential returns on the moon since it’s ours now.
