Wait, are you implying we made early in game adjustments that resulted in a big win. I heard that didn’t occur in these parts!
HUGE move from last year's Pac 12 to this years remodeled Big 12. This year's schedule is like a AAC or Mountain West schedule. They still have not played a ranked team (unless you count the #1 ranked North Dakota State in IAA). Deion would have two wins if they played our schedule.
I still think hes a bafoon. I hope he does get the free ticket to the playoffs so he can be humiliated.
Well if he is not here, he is in thfsg crowing about the election. Not sure he is a troll, maybe just someone with a lot of time.
Napier might just win the next 3 and be preseason top 10 next year. He might have hit some sort of stride here with the Gators. What makes me think he is going to make it is the way the players have responded to this situation and the effort and intensity they are playing with. This day in age it is all very transactional in Football at just about every level. From what I see from Florida is a program built on strong relationships, as that is the only way Napier could have held on to this team through this. When you have a program and a Coach players love and want to play for I think that is more important than ever in college football. I see a Coach who had his back against the wall and a group of kids willing to fight for him. That speaks volumes to me about where the program currently is, and what it can be given sometime for this team to grow. Next year has a chance to be a special one if it all can comes together. This may be the most excited I have been about Florida Football in a long time. Really hoping they can keep this momentum going.
The mods are acting according to direction from above. It’s unfortunate that their hands seem to have been tied
Oh I figured. The same mods exist that would’ve tossed that clown, so there had to be a shift in policy. I think we actually have really good and unbiased mods. They keep the BS to over in Too Hot and frequently delete or modify posts to keep them within the published rules of GC. Unfortunately, “don’t be a troll,” isn’t in the rule book.
I didn't mean easily like winning by 40. I meant it in terms of having over 50% chance to beat them- like IMO we would have won it 6-7 times out of 10 times we played. We had just about every single player back from the 08 NC team outside of Percy. No way they were 19 points better than us in terms of talent. But yes- I didn't mean easily as in easy- poor choice of words on my part.
I see a team trending in the right direction...not a straight line but a trend line. Combined with players that seem to care deeply about their teammates, and their coaches, tells me enough to think the UAA made the right call.
IMO the GATORS are in a pretty good place for a program that started from zero and are in year two of recruiting and portal work. The player recruiting evaualations have been really good and the team has progressed as they have matured. The won-lost record has more to do with schedule, youth, and injuries than coaching deficiency.
I'll go first: I think when we ignore the opinions of people we disagree with (civility assumed) then we end up in the exact situation we decry here and elsewhere. The phrase I use the most, when I hear the opinions of someone with whom I differ is : "I'm not so sure about that." I also say that to myself often. It is very hard to be "certain" of much in this world. Places like THFSG are places people just like to go and yell at the opposing side. The people that hang out there are frequently dopamine junkies that thrive on the conflict. I appreciate the posters on here that want to dump Napier now. I feel some of that frustration myself.
I went from full supporter to off the train after the first two losses. Inexcusable considering the programs we lost to were in similar situations we were in except we were also playing at home. I understand keeping him for next year given the improvement we have now seen and the support he has from lagway and some other key players. That said, I think the won loss record is almost completely on coaching issues. He sang nothing but praises in the offseason and then laid eggs to start the year. The Tennessee game was literally lost on a special teams penalty and poor red zone play calling. Something with the defense changed though. That part is obvious. The offense has always had potential even if people don't like it. Lagway is bringing some of that out as did Richardson despite his short/mid range passing deficiencies. Mertz just wouldn't take shots and when he did they were rarely even close. Hopefully some significant lessons were learned this year from the staff and they carry it over into next season.
I expect young players to make mistakes and crack when it gets tough. I think you learn to put bad plays behind you and move on. In my opinion what we saw at the beginning of they year were players witthout the game experience to react and weather the storm. Jrs. are better than sophs. Sophs are better than freshman. It's just a fact.
This is just banter so I hope it's not taken as arguing but again, there was more to it than youth. Waites starting over BCD is mind-boggling in hindsight. Mertz was our veteran qb in his 2nd year in the offense and as much as we love his character and Moxie he was flat out bad against miami. The defensive line was absolutely stonewalled to start the year and there wasn't that much youth to explain it. The organizational errors with time management and timeouts were still there. It is what it is at this point and I'm willing to move forward as long as we don't see a relapse like we did to start the year. We have been beaten by backup qbs early in the year two years in a row now. Utah last year and aTm this year. Can't keep making excuses for that going forward. Again, I'm impressed by that past several weeks improvement and understand keeping him going forward
Perhaps the mods are giving some latitude to posters who are actually contributing to the subject matter at hand in the thread, as opposed to taking childish personal shots at individual posters, simply because they hold different viewpoints on said subject matter at hand.
