I guess my point was even though the two coaches had similar records in their 4th year, they got rid of Herman because he wasn’t performing up to their standards. Texas churned through two coaches to get Sarkisian, and even though Herman was trending down, he got fired after going 7-3. Texas fired a coach who never had a losing season after he went 7-3. Yet everyone wants to complain about UF fans being impatient for wanting to fire a coach who has yet to have a winning season.
There is no reason UF can't pull in Top 5 classes every year. Talent-rich state. #4 in NIL efforts in the nation.
No surprise. Indiana will reward Cignetti with a well earned massive raise and contract extension. He’s in a really good spot for this stage of his career. I would be surprised if he ever left there, except to retire. fwiw, I believe he would do very good here, but oh well, next. IU looking to keep Curt Cignetti, improve facilities, ensure 2024 isn’t a “one hit wonder”
It's a often forgotten point that Mac had been working on a spread offense throughout 2009 but never showing it in a game until the SECCG against us. It was kind of a brilliant touch. Our defense was on its heals early, completely unprepared for a change in Bama's offensive philosophy. We eventually adjusted, but it was enough to give them the fast start they were able hold onto. It wasn't the reason they won, but it was emblematic of how they had prepared, schemed, and worked all year since the last SECCG loss in order to beat us.
The point is, bama didnt have an entire year to watch a team perform eithout Percy as they did in 09. Percy out for a game while rough, didnt allow the time to prepare. Bamas gameplan to stop the 09 offense was pretty basic.
Its called cash and its not that hard to understand.if you somehow believe we are spending top four money, i wonder where you get hour info. I highly doubt that to be the case.
Source please along with amount in NIL "payroll" for football. Because I think you are way off and would like to be shown otherwise.
For me the game turned on an uncalled block in the back on a screen, I believe it was right before halftime after we had just driven down and scored a TD. It was deflating after we had just taken momentum. They answered our TD right back and before the half. Not the reason we lost but as you said, one of a few reasons. Mac did call a great game and I remember being irritated at how often they showed his mug on camera.
Greg McElroy has spoken in depth on how they started working on game planning UF starting in the spring and adding to the plan all season. The players weren’t made aware they were actually pre-prepping for the Gators. We sometimes forget how detail oriented and well planned out prime Nick and his best coaching staffs could be. Greg said when they finally began to look at game tape of the gators, everything they had been doing all season came into sharp focus and the players realized they had all the reads already installed. A case in point on preparedness I will always remember is the perfection of the onside kick against Clemson that turned the outcome for bama. Perfectly timed, perfectly executed and installed just for Clemson, but practiced for months just in case it was needed. I look back on pre “NIL” days when teams were built for the long haul by scholarships and can’t help but think college football has definitely declined.
Yeah I remember something about adding a little something each week with florida in mind. Don't want to yell your team to overlook the current opponent but Saban knew he had to beat florida to get through the sec. Also says something about all of those "Analysts " he brought on which was new at the time. Of course as we have seen, 100 analysts alone doesn't make for an advantage especially if they are in a booth eating nachos.
100% true....we went all year playing it close to the vest and running the ball. We never really tried to develop an effective passing game, and when it was needed in the title game, it wasn't there. It sure wasn't because we didn't have effective receivers since the 2 starters both made NFL rosters. Unfortunately that very, very talented team couldn't overcome Addazio's appointment as OC.
That's ridiculous. No coach would purposely throw a home game against an SEC foe. That kind of junk would get you fired.
We didn't realize the laser sharp level of their focus on us until it was too late, but Bama almost got caught looking ahead too early in the Iron Bowl. With the SECCG the next week, Bama nearly blew it against an overmatched Auburn.
I recall an interview with some of the Bama players sometime after the 2009 game.. They said they were targeting this game to fuel their workouts and practices, starting after the 2008 championship loss. Florida was the target all year long. I think Mcilroy the ex-Bama commentator was involved in the conversation. Would Urban have left us had we won the 2009 game?
It’s interesting to think about his age in this case. How long will those upgrades take? If the guy really wants to win it all I can’t imagine Indiana is the place, but I think the Big10 might be an easier path. Michigan, PSU might want to talk to him.
