Generating hate

Respectfully, when I asked if you considered these folks unreachable, your response was:

Maybe we have a different idea on what "unreachable" means, but I took that to mean that you don't think these people are capable of holding views that you would ever consider respectable. I would be curious to know more about what "unreachable" means to you (or otherwise what you meant by your answer).

It's an interesting dynamic, the goal essentially becomes to understand how her husband got to thinking the way he did. I suspect (just a gut feeling more than anything else) that you'll see less couple's voting because their spouses going forward than we ever had in the past.

I think some of the keys are:

- less demonizing of those who think differently than us (yes, we can pick out some extreme craziness that we might think is over the top, but how you address that with people who may genuinely believe such things still requires care...*if* we are truly looking to make progress)
- a genuine willingness to understand where others are coming from and why they think the way they do
- a genuine willingness to share something you think they might be missing with the same level of compassion that you would want them to have if they were willing to share something that you might be missing
- more involvement in local politics with a similar respectfulness in interactions

"The left" versus "the right" is a joke . Folks who use these labels are generally the same that cannot tell you what legislation their candidate has voted on or supports. As a life-long free-market capitalist and fiscal conservative, there is not a party with those values. We have one party of oligarch corporate interests (Democrats) and one party of incoherent, but mostly libertarian policies that focuses on being selfish. Nixon would be considered a far-left liberal by today's standards.

 

I posted precisely that;

You have to bear in mind that one of my main points is : it's absolutely unacceptable (and indeed un-American) to vote for someone who enacted a criminal conspiracy to overturn an election. (which I stand by)

....and there's a line-up of people who want to jump all over me and make me feel bad inside. They are generating hate.

I'm sorry, but not sorry that I don't feel bad about refusing to find it acceptable for a sitting US president to criminally try to overturn an election. And to attempt to not peacefully transfer power. In fact, it's pretty astounding that anyone -you, apparently, included- don't consider such un-American acts a deal-breaker in terms of receiving a cote for POTUS.

So if someone finding that conduct abhorrent is, to you, unpleasant, maybe there are places where you'd be more comfortable? Places without a democracy to respect? What places might those be?

Yeah, sure big fella. All that stuff about Trump was just lies. The sexual assault adjudication, the other 26 sexual assault allegations, the constant lies, the racist lying fear-mongering, the idiocy. It was fake, but the media tricked us. All those state cases against his criminal associates? Fake. Their frequent imprisonment? Fake. The fake elector slates? Fake fakes?

Even that attack on the Capitol where hundreds of cops were beaten? Didn't actually happen, amirite?

And this fake reality you live in is real because.....lots and lots of people were conned by the Trump? Gotcha.

 

Well, it's no secret that you and I don't care for one another, for me it's your arrogance and how you try to belittle others while putting yourself on a pedestal. I will be honest I won't miss you being on TH but I do wish you well and I'm happy you realized it's unhealthy and you're doing something about it. I also hope you realize all this was self-inflicted. Thank God for President Trump and all the Great Americans who voted for him.

 

Yes, his appointment of a Fox news host to oversee the world's most powerful military and an unhinged lunatic to be in charge of the FDA and CDC is a great sign that things are going to be very steady and normal the next 4 years. I am so happy that we will get the Treasury more in debt for 4 more years as the billionaires get tax cuts and we get added inflation due to tariffs and lower interest rates so they can pump the stock market up. Good stuff.

You were clearly biased in more than one occasion. As a mod who has the power to ban, edit etc.. you chilled the board by calling out only one side and deeming them hateful. Whatever your reasons.. good or bad.. you crossed that line and deserved to be called out. Now you are back.. once again putting yourself above the fray acting as if you don't stir the pot and contribute mightily to this rancorous board. You seem to have no true self reflection on the time, dialog and effect your words have had. I believe ( again my own thought) that you have let the politics of our nations, the rancor of this board and this issues amongst your family poison your attitude and personality .
