The attack ended in unmitigated disaster for the Russians, as the unit was wiped out during a ferocious artillery barrage. Images shot by a Ukrainian drone show Russian soldiers crossing the river in rubber dinghies. As they reach the shore, they have no time to dig in before drones and artillery open fire on them. Gruesome images show the banks of the river littered with the dead bodies of the Russians following the aerial bombardment.

On the same day Ukraine's 47th Separate Mechanised Brigade repelled a powerful Russian offensive in the Kursk region. Anastasia Blyshchyk, a press officer for the brigade, said: "Yesterday (Monday) was truly a black day for the Russian occupiers who tried to storm in five to six waves."The Russians tried to attack with vehicles, with paratroopers, and storm Ukrainian settlements.

"However, 10 units of armoured vehicles were destroyed by the warriors of the 47th Brigade." Three enemy BTRs were blown up by mines, while the rest of the equipment was destroyed using FPV drones and Stugna anti-tank systems. "Other armorued vehicles were destroyed by our adjacent units... A group of invaders was also liquidated, and those who survived scattered through the fields," she added.

Julian Röpke, a war analyst for the German tabloid Bild, estimated Putin's army lost over 200 soldiers killed or wounded in just three days this week.
He also claimed Russian forces had lost 28 units of armoured vehicles, mostly modern BTR-82As, calling it a catastrophe for Putin's generals.

It's o.k., though, they just got $6.6 billion in cash from the U.S. gov't. Time to send them another handout.

TSMC sued for race and citizenship discrimination at its Arizona facilities (updated)

TSMC is being sued by current and former employees, including a talent acquisition director, over alleged employment discrimination. The employees claim that TSMC, the world's largest chipmaker, has favored employees who are Taiwanese citizens and forced out American workers. Forbes first reported on the suit.

The suit was first filed by Deborah Howington, a talent acquisition director, back in August. Howington claims she saw the HR department create a workplace in "which non-Asian employees and non-Taiwanesecitizens are subjected to a stricter level of scrutiny than similarly situated Asian employees (including Taiwanese citizens)." Since then, a dozen former TSMC staffers have also joined the suit.

TSMC is set to get $11.6 billion from the United States through the CHIPS and Science Act, with $6.6 billion in cash and $5 billion in loans. TSMC is using the funds to build a series of fabs at its plant in Arizona.

"Having accepted $6 billion in U.S. federal funding and elected to compete within the U.S., it’s imperative that TSMC comply with federal discrimination laws and treat all races, national origins, and citizens equally,” the plaintiff's attorney, Daniel Kotchen of Kotchen & Low told Forbes. “We’re confident in our case and look forward to presenting the case to a jury."

Not remotely in the cards. I hope but cannot predict yet that Trump will have a change of heart on Ukraine when he is actually responsible for the outcome, but I am not even a little bit worried about our policy on Taiwan. Defending Taiwan is one of the few national security areas in which realists like Trump and liberal internationalists like Biden are in lock step, though for slightly different reasons. Never mind any posturing or words on the matter; there are good reasons not to talk tough on this issue. If China invades Taiwan on January 20th, then we are going to war that same day. Win, lose, or stalemate, in the event of such a war, a goodly number of Americans are going to die. No polishing that turd. That's why it's so important to deter China from even trying, and my opinion remains that the best way of doing that is to keep punishing Russia in Ukraine, so China sees what happens what you play the game of "That used to be mine, and I want it back!"
