Will Thune be the only thing standing between MAGA and complete control? Better than Scott or Cornyn. hope he was good friends with Liz and pushes back hard.

John Thune elected as Senate Republican leader to succeed McConnell

Senate Republicans on Wednesday elected John Thune to be the next Republican leader to succeed Mitch McConnell in a position he's held for 17 years.

In doing so, they decided against choosing Trump ally Sen. Rick. Scott.

With McConnell announcing his intent to step aside earlier this year, Thune, the current Republican whip, was running against Sen. John Cornyn, a Texas senator and former Republican whip and Scott, a Florida Republican who just won reelection to his second term.

I thought he already said he’d favor recess appointments and fully support Trump’s MAGA policies.

The filibuster is likely staying, so looks like another 4 years of tax cuts & policy via budget reconciliation, confirming 20 year old judges the federalist society thinks are too extreme and unqualified, bipartisan agreements on the worst shit possible (arming proxy states for endless war, reupping the police/security state and its powers, etc) and creative use of executive power by a guy who thinks he has complete immunity.

Did we vote on establishing a monarchy?

If we had, the three branches wouldn't matter. Monarchy has only one branch.

John Thune was a good choice for Majority Leader. He comes out of 1994 and the Contract With America, when fiscal responsibility was central to the GOP takeover. Not saying we will get back to surpluses, but it's a refreshing pick in 2024.

No just President for 4 years, House members for 2 years and 33 senators for 6 years.

Indeed. Which is the point. If the election meant that one person should control all aspects of government, seems pretty much like we elected a Monarch.

But you want the President to control all of those bodies, apparently.

A party having won all three branches via elections in nothing new. What sets this apart is the idea that there are not checks and balances and no guardrails. He can do whatever the hell he wants and no one can stop him from doing just that.

So your claim is that the American people want a monarchy in which one person runs all policy-making branches of the government?

Seriously, what a stupid question. Where did this monarchy stuff come from? We had a revolution to get rid of the monarchy. This is not the first time one party has had control of the House, Senate, and the Presidency. Trump is living in your head right now.
