Per WSJ: Trump is considering an executive order to create a military board responsible for dismissing generals. This maga initiative could focus on identifying leaders not aligned with Trump’s policies or viewed as loyal supporters. This would impact our top military leaders. “In the early days of his presidency, Trump openly expressed admiration for military generals and promoted a number of them to his administration…. By the end of his term, all three of those officers publicly criticized him and described him as a threat to national security. This looks like an <incoming> admin getting ready to purge anyone who will not be a yes man, The president-elect previewed the move during a campaign event in October, telling an audience that he would create a task force to monitor the “woke generals” and get rid of diversity training in the military. They’re gone,” Trump said of those generals, Do they start wearing MAGA hats in formation to signal who’s where?” asked one former senior Pentagon official. “The potential for this to go wrong is infinite.” https://www.wsj.com/politics/nation...aa606?st=rsZX6c&reflink=article_copyURL_share
Who, when, where will the push back come from? The sec def nomination is a slap in the face to the military..it's not going to end pretty
I want my generals to be like Hitler's. Carry out any order I give. If I give it, it is lawful This is who we elected
I like this news. The military rank and file are fine, but the leadership is beyond broken. I would like to see the entire general and military leadership apparatus purged during the Trump administration. Root out the DEI. Dismantle and rebuild the entire military if we have to.
This idea of woke military is hilarious. A problem no one really needs to focus on with the pacifist / isolationist incoming. Can Trump focus on helping the Vets, mental health, and homeless instead?
Obama beat trump by a decade. Don’t recall the left Pearl clutching back then. Hmmmm https://www.investors.com/politics/editorials/197-military-officers-purged-by-obama/
The article describes it as a “purge”, but based on the article it doesn’t sound all that similar to what is proposed here (literally trying to create an “enemies list” inside our own military). You basically just googled “Obama military purge”, didn’t you? It sounds like the specific examples cited deserved to be fired, as they “disobeyed orders”. Whether 9 generals and 197 officers in 5 years is a lot or constitutes “a purge” I do not know. Doesn’t seem like a lot but maybe the comparisons would show something else. How many did other recent Presidents turn over? Do you know how many officers exist (10’s of thousands) and how many are generals (hundreds)?
That anyone would see that as funny is beyond me. Every American who, like me served, and every American who values the historic neutrality of our military, ought to be gravely concerned. The military serves the country and its citizens from foreign adversaries, not a president.
You can also talk to all the NCOs that weren’t permitted to re up and forced to retire. That’s how you gut a fighting force. Something you know nothing about
Not in a dictatorship though. All things go through our Dear Leader Mr. Trump. I would not oppose him. We aren’t yet able to fully appreciate the risk/reward trade off of being opposed to his regime. Once we get the specs on his gulag encampments, we can better assess things. If at that point you choose to oppose our Dear Leader, you will have to accept the consequences like a man.
Was there any evidence that was political, or was that part of the “sequester” which generally caused military budget freezes? The sequester was a big reason our federal deficit was actually shrinking during Obama’s 8 years (until Trump came on and exploded it). Unfortunately as there was no “grand bargain” on the budget I’d say the civilian side didn’t take the similar level cuts that they should have at that time. It wasn’t fair to only sequester military spend. But takes two to tango on that deal and President Obama was willing and reasonable, Freedom Caucus blew it up. Just look at where we are now vs back then and try to tell me that was a good idea.
People in their countries said the same about the German guy with the funny mustache and the Cuban guy with the beard.
200 officers over 4 years. what is average number and rank of officers removed in the first 6 - 12 months in office? would you agree to hold that as a standard that can be judged against vs what djt does? you already know this but removing incompetent officers for dereliction at a steady pace of the years is different than removing the leadership class that may honor 200 plus years of legal precedence and history and disagree with your concept of what constitutes a lawful order.
you mean when they couldn't get a budget passed? it isn't the fighting force that is the concern, it is the leadership that tells them what to do that is being corrupted. You think most of the people in the SS agreed with the acts or they convinced themselves they were following orders?
