The football party we had in 96 was glorious. There were five or six of us gator fans and about twenty holes. They talked so much shit in the first half, so satisfying. Being it was fsu and close friends made it all that much better. I contemplated going to that one but i think it was so much better amongst good friends. I can still reminisce with my fsu buddies and remember the looks on their faces. So sweet.
Ah yes, he was a player. Who was that one five star kid that Muschamp threw off the team who later transferred to Miami after fighting his teammates on the sidelines of a bowl game?
Mullen's recruiting numbers were just that, numbers. So many of them never even made it to campus or never played a meaningful snap.
It's like everything else Napier does as a football coach. He doesn't do anything particularly well. The only reason we're winning 5 a year is the talented players. Now that gravy train is slipping away and 5 wins is going to turn into 1 or 2 wins real soon.
I just used Nebraska as a team that hasn't been good in awhile and isn't exactly a destination location for great climate and living experience. But a bunch of money can make anything worth it.
Gerald Willis. Lol, I've heard stories about his time at both UF and UM. Dude was nuts, and some people were scared of dude
At the risk of talking past each other, I don't think what you wrote changes anything that I wrote. Early in the season we were on a roll in HS recruiting and by October had somewhere around the #5/6 class with real interest from several other high profile kids. It looked like we were on the cusp of a class that we were all hoping for and one that could reestablish us as a top tier recruiting program. That's about when we started having commits drop out and interest wane from the remaining top prospects. By the time of Early Signing Day, we had dropped just outside of the top 10. It was a good class with some superlatives, but I'd guess that every single one of us expected just a few weeks prior to finish much higher than we did. The portal class of transfers did a fine job of filling many of those holes, as you just posted. And top programs will need both HS and portal recruiting as your build your base of young players with more experienced transfers to fill holes, supplement depth, upgrade a position, or add a key puzzle piece in order to stay competitive. We need and want both to be as successful as possible. While both contribute directly to the overall talent in the program--which again, I said looked improved each season--they aren't the same thing. Our HS recruiting class started off hot, then cooled in a way that was not on purpose, not by design, and not what any of us wanted or expected. To the degree our five game end of the season losing streak contributed to this I don't know, but as I posted, I don't think it helped.
It's also not just about us getting talent but where those recruits end up. How much has Georgia, Tennessee, LSU, Bama etc stacked their lines and receiving corps in particular with players we went after? I see so many NFL names we went after that ended up going elsewhere. Not Napier classes yet since it hasn't been long enough but definitely Mac/Mullen year recruiting attempts.
Some bad typing on my part. If photos were in the mix, it would of been of elephants mating (trunks, tusks, and junk).
Yep. According to the announcers at the game that puts him at 1-4 vs. AP Top 25 teams in his tenure at Ole Miss
As are most coaches using inferior rosters to play the few elite teams. He did lose to i think it was Ketucky though. There arent many coaches that can say they beat Georgia though.
Very true. Is Kiffy a better coach than Billy right now? Absolutely. I’m not sure he’s the sure bet to end our coaching searches for the next decade though. His record sucks next to Cignetti, plus he’s a douche
All true but cignetti is playing cupcakes. When he beats osu, thatll change things. Theres no surefire candidate though and kiffy is definitely nut butter.
