Most things education related are state/local school district run but the one thing the fed gov't is very good at is providing grants to upgrade technology in the schools. I would not support getting rid of Dept. of Ed unless this aspect will get picked up somewhere else. Upgrades include anything from new networking, more energy efficient equipment and interactive smart boards.
