Trump picks Lee Zeldin to lead EPA

    Trump’s EPA selection, Lee Zeldin, is expected to lead efforts to roll back regulations that curb pollution in attempts to promote industrial and oil production.



    “President-elect Donald Trump on Monday announced he has picked former Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-N.Y.) to helm the Environmental Protection Agency, the first step in what Trump’s supporters have said could be a thorough shakeup of the regulatory body.

    At EPA, Zeldin will carry out Trump’s energy and environmental agenda, which includes pulling back Biden-era rules on climate and air pollution and potentially rescinding millions of dollars in funding for clean energy under the Inflation Reduction Act. And the administration is expected to take a more aggressive stance in challenging California’s autonomy in enforcing environmental standards….

    As a congressman from New York, Zeldin received the League of Conservation Voters’ worst score on environmental issues out of the entire New York delegation. Zeldin has a 14% lifetime score from LCV, a national environmental advocacy group. While in Congress, LCV showed Zeldin voting against several things the EPA is charged with leading on, including replacing lead service lines across the country. However, in 2020, Zeldin voted against a Republican amendment that would have slashed EPA funding. Zeldin voted against Biden’s 2022 climate law – as did every other House Republican. He was among the majority of House Republicans who also voted against the 2021 bipartisan infrastructure law, which contained EPA funding for clean school buses, cleanup of toxic brownfields sites, and funding to replace lead pipes and service lines around the country.
    About $103 billion in Biden’s climate law funding – 92% of the law’s total – has been announced as of late October. That money will fund everything from clean energy rebates to helping coastal communities prepare for rising seas and slashing pollution from oil and gas operations. The EPA alone is on track to obligate nearly $38.3 billion from the Inflation Reduction Act by the end of the year, which will make it harder for Trump’s administration to claw back.

    Can't drill anymore. Drillers are actually slowing the rate of new drills to make proven reserves last longer. GOM extreme deep water is the new gold mine. 15k feet deep, all new tech, first production well doing this just went on line. Doesn't matter how much we produce if Opec decides they want to raise prices. Global commodity and all..but you know that

    Chevron starts production at Anchor with industry-first deepwater technology


    Chevron Corporation** (NYSE: CVX) announced today that it started oil and natural gas production from the Anchor project in the deepwater U.S. Gulf of Mexico. Anchor production marks the successful delivery of high-pressure technology that is rated to safely operate at up to 20,000 psi, with reservoir depths reaching 34,000 feet below sea level.
    “The Anchor project represents a breakthrough for the energy industry,” said Nigel Hearne, executive vice president, Chevron Oil, Products & Gas. “Application of this industry-first deepwater technology allows us to unlock previously difficult-to-access resources and will enable similar deepwater high-pressure developments for the industry.”

    “This Anchor milestone demonstrates Chevron’s ability to safely deliver projects within budget in the Gulf of Mexico,” said Bruce Niemeyer, president, Chevron Americas Exploration & Production. “The Anchor project provides affordable, reliable, lower carbon intensity oil and natural gas to help meet energy demand, while boosting economic activity for Gulf Coast communities.

    Amazing the level of sycophancy trump requires.

    “President Trump, when he called me up, gosh, he was rattling off 15, 20 different priorities, a clear focus. He wasn’t reading off of some sheet, it’s the top of his head. And if I challenged him to give me 50 more ideas of what to do with this agency to improve the economy, I’m confident he would have done that,” Zeldin said shortly after the announcement was made.”

    Lee Zeldin whose mission in the Trump Administration as Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency will be to functionally remove the adjective "protection" from the name of the agency.

    Environmental defense firms better be staffing up. Lots of work coming their way to challenge the nonsense this guy is going to try and push out.

    My fear is they are going to try and revive the pebble creek mine project that got denied in Alaska. I'm in favor of more drilling no north slope but that mine is an ecological disaster waiting to happen in the heart of some of the most pristine salmon country left on the planet.

    lot shallower, lower labor costs, less weather, little to no costs to pay Guyana. Someone in that country really sold them out in their negotiations with Hess, now Chevron, CNOOC, and Exxon.

    Wild guess… the tensions with Venezuela… gives the Guyanese some coverage with high profile NOCs and SuperMajors.

    Before the EPA, we had things like:
    Rivers on fire - the famous example in Ohio
    Lead-based paint
    DDT - which has been shown to have transgenerational negative impacts on human health
    Love Canal - led up superfund stuff
    The use of CFC's - which were literally destroying the ozone layer
    And that's just what I could think of and verify I wasn't wrong about in a 30 second google search.

    But sure yeah - stuff was definitely better before the EPA...

    Also - off topic - but no way trump shuts down the dept of ed - that part of the government is a cash cow for rich connected people across higher ed, but especially in private for-profit education. They give out like 200 billion a year in loans and grants and without that the for-profit sector goes under. So yeah, that's not going anywhere I don't think.
