Glad to see Grimsley and Smith getting time. They need reps to improve and with injuries may be needed more. Kelby Collin’s? Zero snaps or did I miss him? He must be transferring at this point if he ain’t injured. Switched positions and little playing time after doing well as a true freshman last year. Didn’t like that position switch for him. Maybe he didn’t either?
Collins has played in 6 games so sitting out at this point would make little sense unless he’s injured. He’s only recorded stats in one game so he hasn’t been very productive. Maybe he’s been hurt all year.
We never get much information as to why. In instances like Cox coming to us from Georgia, we figure out why, but it just takes a little while.
15 defensive linemen and 7 linebackers got significant playing time in a game where there were only 52 snaps. That seems insane to me. Used to be the same front 7 played nearly every snap except for the occasional sub. I can't imaging playing Kevin Carter, Ellis Johnson, Johnny Church and Mark Campbell only 20 snaps a game and subbing them out for 2nd and 3rd stringers. Or Rutledge, Peterson and Kelsey sitting while backups get a third of the snaps. Is it just the up tempo style of modern offenses that make it necessary to constantly be subbing out players, or do we just have a bunch of guys that are all about the same and we have to make sure everyone gets playing time for fear they will transfer after the season?
