I've been a Gator since the early 60's. Graduated from UF in '73. Lived through 0-10-1 in 1979 and was at many of those games. We have NEVER had a 4-year losing run like we've had the last 4 years. In the 70's, we had 3 losing seasons in 10 years - 71, 78, 79. The last time we had 3 losing seasons in a row was 45, 46, 47. We are about to have our 4th losing season in a row. So I stand by my original statement. It was accurate, except for maybe adding that the last 4 years have been below mediocre. Maybe you want to debate the difference between mediocre, not very good, pretty bad and terrible. None of those would be a way we want to describe our football team, right? And yet here we are.
I was proud how they fought. I appreciate their efforts being so undermanned. But will somebody tell SS that the purpose of a game is to win.
His exact wording was, "we are going to have to look at effort." When players have to tell the coach they want to practice harder, effort is the problem of the head coach, not the players.
this is a lesson that we need good recruiting coaches at Florida. Mullen did more harm to UF with his recruiting that are facing the effects of that. Billy Napier is great at evaluating talent which has led to some infusion of players. But he has not been able to sell the brand as he would like with HS recruiting due to NIL and recent record in the last 10 years ==> we are suffering a slower rebuild. Ultimately if Napier cannot change the trend this year and next, we will look for a replacement.
Referring to a post above, the gators have played football for 100 years. I’ve watched for 40. There have been injury plagued seasons. But there is no precedent back to the 1940s for 3, soon to be 4, losing seasons. I can remember no season where we were blown out 3 times (and it’s not over yet). Yes, injuries impacted the last game but we have had injuries in many seasons in history, and they don’t explain our unprecedented failure and noncompetitiveness under Billy. I’ll put it this way. Many opine “we may beat uga if lagway wasn’t injured.” True. More plausibly from watching Billy, we would’ve played them tough and lost close due to a “Billy” coaching decision (conservative play call, wasted time out, penalty, special teams, etc.). In the imaginary Wynn casino of my mind, given Billy’s coaching acumen proven at UF, I’d bet on him blowing the uga game over us winning. What prior game gives you confidence that we beat uga with lagway with Billy coaching?
