If 3 years ago when BN was hired, if I posted that in year 3 UF has faced 5 teams with winning records. We are 0-5 having been outscored 180-91 and outgained 2,346-1,480, I would've been tarred and feathered and probably banned for trolling. Now, that statement will get several replies of all the mitigating factors and why we're gonna turn a corner just as soon as the players who participated in 3 of those 5 games are healthy again.
Right about now is when you'd want to make a change. At least fire Napier, which puts other coaches on notice the job is officially open. With the weak recruiting class, it's much easier to justify waiting until January to hire a coach like Lane Kiffin, because we're not risking a stellar recruiting class bailing on us. Kicking the can another year just makes the situation worse from a rebuilding standpoint. There's no easy solution to this, but stopping the bleeding is step #1.
I believe step one is to hire a president and for whatever reason, that is expected to take wuite a while.
I didn't realize the recruiting had fallen this hard. Last time I looked, I wanna say we were #30 or so. The recruiting is pure negligence. You can't win in the SEC recruiting like that. If the powers that be are okay with this, they're okay with not winning. Plain and simple.
Presumably Clay Millen transferred in this year to be QB #3, and he is behind Warner. So, yes, yes it is very much a possibility.
I don’t disagree, I just don’t think anyone worth hiring is coming into this current situation. Sure we could probably land a solid G5 guy, but that would really piss off the GN.
I don’t see a solid QB worth the money is going to transfer to be a back up. Your back up really should be the guy you’re developing to take over once DJ moves on. The potentially flip from FSU is promising but he is no DJ and I think DJ masks a lot of BN deficiencies in play calling. Obviously there is the possibility he could land an elite QB in the portal after DJ leaves.
Yes. In fact, I would not be surprised to see Lagway transfer if Napier stays on. Everybody assumes he'll stay put with Napier here. But he was likely promised things regarding recruits around him, etc. With our recruiting going into the tank, that tells me something is very wrong with the program and a QB talent like Lagway will 100% bail if he thinks the team around him is going to get worse.
Still not IMPOSSIBLE for him to be fired if they really stink it up rest of way even with Lagway. But still unlikely. Depressing times
The more I think about it, I don't think we should assume Lagway will stay. Recruits are running away from our program. Why are we so sure he will stay?
One thing I think we can all agree on. The Gators "fans" on X are not helping the image of this program. Some of the most annoying people on the planet earth on that platform.
