I wonder if there is data out there that speaks to how often those types of letters from the AD to the public result in the type of turnaround everybody is hoping for. I'm going to guess that almost none of them do.

In the pros there are examples of guys actually being fired and having success elsewhere. It's a bit different in college since it's a move for recruiting. Regardless, most college coaches that succeed don't get in a position where such a statement needs to be made.
