You can feel it in the bones of this country that it wants to shift right, but it was hesitant about Trump. I think the D's would be even more defeated (how are they going to attack her after 8 years of Trump) and she would assemble a top-team that would get a lot done in the first 2 years and make some really effective and good changes. And do so with a broad-based, Reaganesque coalition. Oh well, coin flip it is then.
The fact that it's often tough to tell when Trump and his team are purportedly joking, exaggerating, being serious, etc., is partly the reason for his political success in the first place though. They not only flood the zone with claims that their opponents have to waste time refuting, but they can seemingly take both sides of issues (e.g., healthcare, unions, etc.) because they are not constrained by worrying about being specific or being consistent. Notably, the Republicans who ran against Trump could not figure out how to combat these tactics either. Seems very effective when coming from an outsider, but I'm not sure how it might translate to doing the work of governing. Frankly, I'm not sure which sides of which issues the voters think he was serious about, if any, but I guess we will see.
