Look for some movement in recruiting. Regardless if youi wanted Billy back or not at least he can tell Kids he will be here. I expect a couple of new Commits and i also expect a couple of decommits in the next couple weeks
Candyman, with the decision to keep Napier, will the big dollars that were collected for his buyout go to NIL now? I just didn’t see a replacement out there that made sense, and would hope that money goes to the talent pool.
Just need a little momentum and players back to saying we building something and recruits buying it. And some fierce NIL and portal gets.
I doubt that money was actually collected. It was more likely pledged to be given to fire Napier. I'm sure now that the decision to retain has been made, those checkbooks have been put back in those donors back pockets.
15-17 record and soon to be worse. Looking at the other recruits in the class and seeing a ranking <50. Thinking the “process” isn’t working…. I think the reason Billy was kept was pure financial. They didn’t want to pay the buyout for him and the buyout for a new coach to replace him. We will be in this same situation next year about this time with only a decrease in buyout amount. Will the same argument be made then?
The average player ranking is very high...simply adding players will raise the ranking quickly. They were never looking for a big freshman class but I would imagine it's still top 20
No matter how you slice it, a recruiting class in the 30’s and up is the end of Billy. He can’t recover from that. This is like we’re on probation again. What do we have, 6-8 commits in mid November? SMH.
Less than 4 weeks to go to early signing date for HS players where ~ 95% of the players sign. It will truly take a miracle to move from >50 into the top 20 at this juncture. The best players have already committed elsewhere...most of what we can get between now and then will erode our current avg. player ranking.
You need 20-25 good players each year to compete at the top. Look at Bama’s last 4 classes…all between 20 - 30…same with UGA.
Particularly with the increased scholarship limits. These teams will horde even more talent now because they were prepared.
That is very shortsighted if true. I can understand the dissatisfaction of a billionaire having to shell out a few million every three years to buy out a coach, but wouldn't it have been easier to be in the ear of the President to get a better AD earlier who would replace the coach with a better option? Not an AD that picks a coach for being a good person. I can do that for my assistant because I know I can teach him/her what is needed done. Stricklin can't do that for CBN. Also, will giving an incompetent coach more years guarantee a better pool of candidates years down the road? This is an end of career contract at UF, not a beginning coach's contract hoping to coach somewhere else later. No successful coach is looking to see how long we retain coaches.
If you want a small class, you get 14 4 and 5 stars and add in 3 or 4 quality 3 stars. We are at 3 consensus 4 stars. I like some of these recruits, but it doesn't take away that this is as bad as I have seen it for a Florida coach who is expected to return. Moving up to 30th place by adding 3 stars is not impressing anyone or helping us field a great team.
