Would this apply to Barron too? What’s next - naturalized citizens aren’t real citizens?

C'mon man... do you know what it takes to "change the constitution"???

This is just a stupid pissing in the wind concept.

And IF the SCOTUS were to uphold such a blatant violation of the USC, we'd be @#$%&d with a capital F.

Talk about under mining *RULE. OF. LAW.*

You really even want to contrmplate such a malleable constitution??? What would the constitution even mean, after that???

As Liz Cheney just said, we have the constitution to keep us hopefully safe from the radical right as they occupy the WH.

Birthright citizenship is an example of American exceptionalism. It's one of many reasons why the US is different than most other countries. As Ronald Reagan said in the following speech immigration is a core value of American culture unlike most other countries.
``You can go to live in France, but you cannot become a Frenchman. You can go to live in Germany or Turkey or Japan, but you cannot become a German, a Turk, or Japanese. But anyone, from any corner of the Earth, can come to live in America and become an American.''

Yes, the torch of Lady Liberty symbolizes our freedom and represents our heritage, the compact with our parents, our grandparents, and our ancestors. It is that lady who gives us our great and special place in the world. For it's the great life force of each generation of new Americans that guarantees that America's triumph shall continue unsurpassed into the next century and beyond. Other countries may seek to compete with us; but in one vital area, as a beacon of freedom and opportunity that draws the people of the world, no country on earth comes close.

This, I believe, is one of the most important sources of America's greatness. We lead the world because, unique among nations, we draw our people -- our strength -- from every country and every corner of the world. And by doing so we continuously renew and enrich our nation.

While other countries cling to the stale past, here in America we breathe life into dreams. We create the future, and the world follows us into tomorrow. Thanks to each wave of new arrivals to this land of opportunity, we're a nation forever young, forever bursting with energy and new ideas, and always on the cutting edge, always leading the world to the next frontier. This quality is vital to our future as a nation. If we ever closed the door to new Americans, our leadership in the world would soon be lost.

Almost the exact opposite of the way Trump and his nativist supporters see the role of immigrants in the US.

Yesterday, somebody said that he had a mandate to get rid of all illegal immigrants, which gets rid of Melania. Today, we get rid of Barron due to his illegal immigrant mother. "Conservatives" are slowly calling for the removal of the whole Trump family for us!

You think these people care about Reagan or the constitution? They just need some scapegoat for whatever perceived ills they have in their lives. I just hope Martin Neimoller’s prose doesn’t play out again.

Ronald Reagan never dealt with the type of invasion we are dealing with now. Ronald Reagan was a great men and a great President, that doesn't mean he was perfect.

Ronald Reagan was wrong on this issue.

This is a lie. Border apprehensions were higher under Reagan than under Obama and Trump. Except for 2019.

Reagan's mistake was not setting up for future immigrants to have the same chance at citizenship as those who received amnesty.

Wonderful speech by Ronald Reagan. Doesn't mean he was 100% right. We had no where near the immigration during Reagan that we do now. I think even Reagan would agree with limits on immigration and not unfettered unchecked mass immigration that causes local resources to reach the breaking point.

It's also not relevant to this conversation. I never said I wanted to end immigration, just illegal immigration. I also want to end the abuse of our asylum system.

I want legal controlled immigration at a cap of 500,000 new citizens a year with minor exceptions, including industry wide need that the population can not meet (so for example when we had a nurse shortage during the pandemic) or when sponsored by a Company.

That honors the tradition of immigration while keeping the country safe and prevents overwhelming our resources.

The U.S. doesn't always get it right. Sometimes the past gets it right more than the future. To me there is something to be said about holding on to Tradition, to Cultural Norms. That Tradition, that History, those Cultural Norms, will be why countries like Germany and Italy and Japan will be here far after the U.S. has collapsed or split up.

You want to throw away history. You call it stale. I am a student of history. I think history is there to guide us, to remind us of who we are. Respecting the past is not "holding on to a stale past". Sometimes the past was better. I want to be a country that respects its past as much as it does its future. Traditions, History, Cultural Norms, they are important. Ronald Reagan's "holding on to the stale past" comment was wrong.

It's why I love countries like Japan, Italy, Austria, Hungary, South Korea, they don't just throw away their past. They honor it.

And why do we need to be at the top of the mountain? What does leading the world really get us anyway? It gets us in never ending wars, nation building and rebuilding other continents. Europe would still be recovering from World War II if it wasn't for us. That was money and resources and manpower that could've been spent here.

If curbing immigration and only allowing immigrants here who have been vetted and gone through the legal process, if that costs us our spot at the top of the World, I'm okay with it.

Let some other Country be the "beacon at the top of the world" for a change. I think they'll find it's not as great as they thing it is. America needs to focus on America for a change and stop focusing on other Countries for awhile.

Give me that stale past. I'm okay with America being just another Country.

Why are you even making such an issue of this? Why does it so disturb you. It strikes me as awfully petty and un-Christian like.

Trump won't need to change the Constitution. If he gets the people he wants in his administration and in the federal bureaucracy and 'his' generals in the military, he'll just tell them what to do and they will do it. It doesn't matter if it isn't constitutional and it doesn't matter if the SC tells him 'no'. SC can't enforce anything. Same with congress. They can pass laws but can't enforce them. So who is going to stop him?

This is an example of where I break with Trump. I understand what he's going for and why, but I don't agree with the approach or the change. First, if you want to stop anchor babies, you can achieve that by simply securing our border. That should be priority #1. Trump wants to disincentivize illegal immigration, I get it, but secure the border and it solves both issues.

Also, as an aside, I think birthright citizenship can be a blessing in some families. Example: American man forms romantic relationship with a female illegal immigrant. The couple become pregnant, but never marry. Mother is later deported after child is born, due to a crime mother commits. The child having U.S. citizenship makes it possible for father to fight for custody of the child here in the U.S. Mother being a criminal and returning to a place the child is not familiar with would be very solid grounds for what's "in the best interests of the child" by father.

I mean, the guy has also said he’d suspend or “terminate” the constitution. And the Supreme Court you have faith in has said the President has total immunity.

It’s who you shilled for comrade. Enjoy!
