They are elite athletes. They want to put their talent tape every week, because generally speaking, every week is an interview for their next job. I’d expect them to play hard.
It was pretty easy to predict this... He is not going to get an extension. If he starts slow again he is toast, pretty early.
There are NO guarantees anymore in this new era of free agency, this has to be a secondary concern in this day and age. He didn’t keep Etienne or Umanmielen, so……..
In my (probably unique) opinion, Billy has a better chance of truly turning it around next year than we do of "finding the right guy" this year... So I guess it's good we do this now and try to salvage the recruiting, which I'm confident he will. And by salvage, I mean get us to around 20th. I do like knowing who our coach will be for next season, so there's that!
Florida retains Napier for 2025 season In my opinion, great news. Now go out and play your asses off the next 4 weeks. Go Gators
What if that phenom says enough is enough and transfers? There are many programs that, as of this time, are light years better than us that would offer him much more success sooner, than later, than we can.
Surprised the AD didn't put this out sooner. As for the aforementioned public sentiment for Napier staying I see more of it here than anywhere else. I know quite a few Gator alums/fans and everyone is more than ready for a change. The only fans I know that want UF to keep Napier are rival fans. Thankfully, we have good basketball/ baseball teams to look forward to.
I would guess that this statement assumes we are losing the next 3 and then beating FSU. If we lose to FSU, all bets are off, I would think... Edit: and by "this statement", I mean the AD's, not yours.
Playing "all out" for a coach is one thing, and it appears the team IS doing that for Napier. My issue is, I do not believe Napier is capable of putting the players in a proper position to succeed at the level most of the fanbase has come to expect. The team can play their asses off, but if clock management, scheme, play-calling, etc. doesn't improve, average to slightly above average is probably the best you will ever see. If you're ok with that, BN is your man.
I'll grant that they are playing much better and harder, but the results are pretty much the same. Have you ever heard the saying, "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results" Too much hoping and not enough evidence that it will change in a significant way. I'd be with you on this had Billy not coached us out of a victory at Tennessee. Unfortunately, he's a lot like Zook in that he seems to be snake-bitten. However, he's not remotely close to the recruiter Zook was. So, anyone replacing him won't have championship type of talent to step into like Urban did when he replaced Zook.
Year three with this guy is not about wins and losses. We are now grading Billy's team on effort. I think I am missing something in this way of thinking.
This used to be called the kiss of death in pro sports. What happens if we lose out to everyone including FSU.
