I was wrong. I should have remembered the wisdom of James Carville who said "It's the economy stupid". I deluded myself into believing that the votes of enough female voters upset over the Dobbs decision would offset the economy as a motivating issue. Didn't happen. A majority of the voters hurt by inflation compared prices in 2020 with prices in 2024 and decided that Joe Biden was to blame since he was president for last four years and even though he wasn't the actual candidate the real nominee indicated that she wouldn't have done anything differently than Biden.
I saw a map of the areas where inflation has hit hardest and where Trump made the most gains. It supports your contention.
