Harris should never have been the nominee. Biden should have never attempted to run again and they should have held a normal primary. A dementia-addled Biden and Kamala Harris are about the only 2 people that Trump could possibly have beaten and that's what happened.

I thought for sure that when Biden dropped out, they'd hold an open convention and that they wouldn't actually try to run Harris. Democrats are guilty of some of the most shocking political malfeasance I have ever seen in presidential campaign politics.

Here's looking to 2028 when we can have a clean slate on both sides.

I think Biden sunk them when he called for her to be the choice before his political corpse was even cold. He tied their hands.

From Texas and Oklahoma eastward, Trump won the entire southeast. A presidential candidate from California should not have selected a V.P. from Minnesota. (Not that Walz was a bad V.P. candidate under ordinary circumstances.) One from the south, especially a blue-dog democrat would have been better.

Kamala herself was only a slightly better candidate than Elizabeth Warren. She was one of the more extreme liberal members of the Senate. Biden chose her more for her gender and color than for her leadership, problem-solving, or political abilities. She was more of a lightning rod for republicans (and for the misogynistic Trump), and she could only try to limit how left wing her message was.

But, this ticket is that the DNC and party elites chose from the entire membership. Imagine having the opportunity to choose without any input from the rank and file ….. and coming up with Harris-Walz.

At that point. Biden could have announced an open primary a year ago and the people could have made a choice

She should have picked the Pennsylvania governor. That was political malpractice.

Kamala and the rest of the Democrats should have known a year ago Biden wasn’t fit to run again. That’s when they should have forced him out. If they acted with due diligence, they would have had a much better chance and probably won.

You're assuming that Trump will give up the Presidency and not declare himself president for life after he sends the military after his political opponents. Hopefully that was another of Trump's lies.

Democrats were just a little too arrogant.

I don't know how a Pennsylvania governor would have secured any of the southern states. Pennsylvania by itself would not have won her the election.

They were stuck(their own fault), the giant war chest could only go to Harris or Biden. In addition if they did do an open call at the DNC it would have pissed off many in the party as it would have been seen as misogynistic and racist.

    All true.

I think they went with Walz in hopes of shoring up the blue wall. I thought he came off milk toast at best.

Personally I think that’s all hyperbole, I know many ardent Trumpers and none of them would support such a notion.

Well many right leaning posters were saying it way back then and were pretty much laughed at by the left.
    They aren’t laughing now though.

Actually, somewhat surprisingly I think it would have been about the same. Anything Harris gained by not being old, she lost by being a minority and a woman. She campaigned hard but has her own share of negatives.

Looking back at her poor primary showing I seem to recall she scored less than expected among minority men. Guess Dems figured that was an outlier.

Bernie Sanders weighs in: democrats were too elitist. Too a certain extent, I have to agree. Harris mostly addressed the middle and upper classes, and ignored the lower class. She talked vaguely about increasing minimum wage, but never any specifics. A specific plan to increase minimum wage might have worked wonders with the working poor. Even though they are less likely to vote than the other economic classes, this one issue could have brought them to the polls in record numbers.

You do have to give Harris some credit--she spanked Trump in the debate so badly, he refused to consider a second debate, especially if lying without being called out on it was not an option.
