I will counter with what my 22YO son told me today. If the no tax on tips and no tax on OT gets passed, he will make a huge bonus in his take home due to high tips and OT in the beach service in a ridiculously overpriced panhandle county. He works long hourly hours with lots of OT doing overpriced night fires (they call them bonfires but they are just a few burning logs in a metal pan). Clientele throws Benjamin’s around like I do $10s. Plus nice tips are added to the credit card bills. He will absolutely not mind. If Trump wins I will say out loud what I said in 2016…”What the hell have we done?”

This is where it’s a failure of education. People need to learn to pay themselves first. If an employer matches put in to get the match it’s an extra raise. I work with a few people making 6 figures who don’t even do it. They ask me about stocks all the time. My first question is are they maxing their 401k, none are. They would rather drive 80k cars and take 5 trips a year.

It’s one of those states where the big cities get their votes counted first but the rest of the state is much slower.
Had the same conversation with my son this week and finally convinced him to max out his required 401K contribution to get the employer match. That is free money. That rate of return is unbeatable unless you buy Trump merch. I kid, I kid. But the boy is in the 401K program finally after three years of discussions.
