    Lots of ways to improve it, but they'd have to be implemented by the two parties that profit from it the most.

    In terms of fairness, democracy .. all that stuff, it’s not a great system. but the money isn’t burned. It goes to salaries, travel, printing, advertising …

    I agree with that, it doesn't go up in smoke. But does it produce anything? If that money was spent to make better widgets, would all of us widget buyers would be better off?

    True. But lots of people going out to eat, for example, doesn’t produce anything, but it’s considered great for the economy.

    I don't think they still do it but there used to be a box you checked on your tax return to donate $1 to the Presidential eleciton fund. Do they still do that?
