Sam looks vey ripped, athletic and has some skill. He went up to jam a put back, I thought, he is going to have some highlights this year and continue to get better. Very impress with the minutes he got.
Yup. Need him to be a little bit more diverse on his offensive attack, though. Face to face with the defender scoring ability would be a nice addition.
Highly underrated. For some crazy reason he wasn't listed by ESPN in the top two hundred of portal transfers.
If he and Haugh can play 40-50 minutes combined like last night, I'll take it even if they don't get 10 points between them
Yeah, he didn't really seem to be trying to score last night. CTG is gonna point out in tape review, "Here! Take it to the hoop here!"
Last night USF defense collapsed the defense to defend the basket hindering any inside scoring but Sam still got a couple, pretty dam impressive for his first Florida game against a pretty good team. He will be working hard to be able to work on his inside moves and I feel he will get better at it as the year progresses. A great transfer who will get recognized.
This year the SEC is again loaded with talented transfers, he has gotten lost in the shuffle. Don’t worry he will make some people take notice with his blocks, block outs, dunks on runouts and a soft scoring touch. He looks like he wants to get better by seeing him try anything the coaches throw at him and it was positive in his first game. Haugh is no slouch and does the same thing, both great teammates. Hopefully everyone can stay healthy. This thread doesn’t even recognize Brown, Plavzar, Viktor, Kajus and Ollie. We have a deep team that will get battle tested and grow. What’s not to like!
Ya for sure but I also think he may be a 5 tool of sorts. He just hustles and has a nose to do the little things. The whole team looked impressive and well coached. A little rust to open up but they got it going and handled business against a very good team.
Haugh will have some higher scoring games as the year goes on, he can shoot, but the guards we have are some of the best shooters in the country. The coaches have wanted him to defend and rebound, but the coaches know we are going to need inside scoring threats. He in his head probably feels his role is crucial and he will get his chances down the road. I for one hope he gets his shooting mojo back and nails his next open three!
I think Chinyelu comes around and I also think Condon will get more minutes at the 5. Can't imagine Alexis as a full-time 5 against SEC bigs given his length. He should get more run tonight. Look forward to seeing how he improves defensively in screen coverage and what else he can show offensively.
Maybe. But camp reports consistently said Chinyelu was a beast under the glass. I think he keeps the starting job.
BIG SAM, against Jax, 10 pts, 7 rebounds, four blocks and one steal, in just 16 minutes playing time. He tried a couple of threes, missed, but some will start to fall soon. This production gave us a good night, where the bigs showed up. I don’t care if he starts, but give this dog more minutes!
Too soon for me to opine but he has that little hook down - wish he’d let it go higher than he does. But, he has some finesse around close to the rim.
