Boeing Dismantles DEI Program

    It’s a stupid take though. Boeing quality issues have nothing to do with DEI. It’s MBA senior management types trying to save a buck.

    Of course they're a failure. It'd be like trying to force a certain number of unathletic players on your team. People aren't going to like it so much when the losses start piling up.

    These type of simplistic takes are part of the reason DEI programs exist in the first place.

    Feels like they need to be broken up. Military division. Space Division. Commercial Division. All separate companies.

    Also, did anyone really think DEI was going to work when Larry Fink picked up the ball. Corporate America ruins everything and it will be no different with DEI. Further, Diversity Officer does not need to be a career path.

    I'm thinking DEI compliance officers. That's apparently a degree/course path now. Because, you know, a typical HR degree just isn't enough. :rolleyes:

    I have a couple of nieces that work in the military division of Boeing out in Arizona. I don't think that division is on strike so they are still producing military hardware. The problem is the strike on the commercial side of Boeing is hurting the entire company. As @CHFG8R said, the company needs to be broken up. I would think commercial as one company and the military/space as another company.

    Boeing has been poorly ran since their merger with MCDonnell Douglas in the 90’s. The recent issues with Boeing, really aren't recent . They have been occurring for years. These issues have only made the news since the 737 Max fiasco. These merger was essentially an MD takeover of Boeing. Very similar to the American Airlines/USAir merger. AA was great, USAir sucked. After the merger it all ran like the old USAir.

    Boeing’s issues really don’t have much to do with executive MBAs, as another poster blamed. Boeing management does indeed have a huge task ahead of itself to turn this around. Saving approx. $20M in direct savings from dropping DEI infrastructure is a start. Eliminating the thousands of hours of forced training that this infrastructure imposes will probably yield about 3X that $20M. Next they need to take a good hard look at their engineering to get consumer confidence get it back to the days when people said; “If it ain’t Boeing, then I ain’t going”.
